Doing the Safety Dance

We once talked to a flat bed driver who said the only cars he’s never pulled a dead body out of are Volvos and Jaguars—and I believe him. A drunk plowed into my little sister at close to sixty miles an hour, and while her 740 Volvo was totaled, she walked away without a scratch. Fortunately, nothing that catastrophic has happened to my beloved XJ6. But while I was trying to install a new radio, I discovered that virtually everything is made out of solid steel. That kitty is a tank.
I bring this up because the Insurance Industry for Highway Safety just released their list of safest cars, and it was disappointing to see that not a single American model made the list. Detroit’s problem is that it’s not fielding cars with stability control, which the IIHS says has the potential to save thousand of lives every year. Maybe the big three should stop trying to figure out how to make larger, less fuel-efficient trucks and start adding useful features like this. I’m just saying …

There are American cars that do have stability control..

If you can’t control a vehicle without electronic stability control, you shouldn’t be driving.
