Racing Reality Bites

Many of you have already checked out our coverage of the First Annual SubieFest. The show was a great success, but one "situation" I didn’t include in the coverage was the accident that occurred during the Time Attack. As I was walking over to the RallyCross event, I stopped to watch an ambulance driving onto the road courseĀ… That’s never a good thing. Even with the best drivers piloting the best cars with the best technology, accidents can still happen. As you can see in the picture below, the car is totaled. It’s important to note that most insurance companies will not cover a car that is wrecked while on a race track!! Here’s an update from the SubieFest website:

"Crash Update: Alec, the driver of Kendrick’s WRX in the Time Attack has been released from Harborview Hospital with a broken finger, some bruises, and pulled tendons."

The owner of the car has received a lot of support from his fellow Subie-owners, including monetary donations and even a new WRX wagon rolling shell from the guys at PDX Tuning! Our condolences go out to the owner and driver. Big props to Kendrick and Alec’s supporters!

Click the pic for an explanation of what happened.

Regarding the previous comment: this car didn’t have a roll-cage. A testament to Subaru safety. Car rolled 7.5 times at a very high rate of speed: both the B-pillar and driver compartment were still intact.

After looking at this and seeing how little the driver suffered, I can definitely understand why my mom’s family are so Subaru loyal.
