Radical Rambler!
Posted by: John "Just Lucky to be Here" |
It’s hard to believe, but sixty-odd years ago, this Rambler was a humble little street car. Not anymore. Owned by the Mackey Familya racing clan from Coloradothis puppy is packing over two thousand horsepower and runs sixes. Practically every piece is either carbon fiber or billet aluminum, and the team is hoping to tear up the West Coast Pro Mod Circuit in 2007. Good luck guys, we’re pulling for you! |

Route 66 Rambler

Willys and Kaiser-Frazer merged in 1955… Many automotive historians for some reason lump Willys under Kaiser, when Willys was by far the more influential and long-lived of the two concerns. AMC did buy Kaiser Willys Jeep in 1970, in order to secure the Jeep brand, the same thing that later happened to AMC when it was bought by those guys with the five-point star, whose name apparently can’t be mentioned without being sued(and now, apparently, the same thing is liable to happen to them).
Also, there WAS NO Rambler 60-odd years ago. The original Rambler stopped production in 1913, and Nash re-introduced the name in 1950, a few years short of 60 years ago.
And that is one beautiful Willys Pro Modified…

FYI, that’s a Willys, not a Rambler, though technically, it’s just a fiberglass (or carbon fiber, as you say) representation of a much-modified Willys. And if there’s anything there 60 years old, I’d like to see it.

Thanks for the feature, and thanks for the space you provide for all of us car guys and gals.
2007 looks to be an exciting season for Mackey family racing. With the addition of the Willy’s promod Bryon Mackey anticipates a great season on the West Coast Promod circut.
Jamie Mackey(Bryon’s wife) will be starting her second full season driving a Super Comp dragster Capable of running 7 second quarter miles at 175 mph.
Robin Mackey(Bryon’s sister) will be driving her Super Gas 27 T roadster in her 10th year of racing.

For some reason under car info the option of Willy’s isn’t available right now. In 1970 American Motors bought the company that built the Willy’s. So that was my second choice.

It’s a 41 willys. Not a Rambler.
