2007 G35X. The Coupe Killer?

So I’ve traded in my beloved ’04 G35 coupe and scooped up an ’07 G35x sedan. Initially I thought: "Oh boy, I’m going from overweight-sporty-bigness to heavier-pervy old-guy-tank…"

And was I mistaken! After one day, it was more like "coupe who?" Sure, the new sedan isn’t as aggressive or sexy as the coupe, but with the new 2008 Altima coupe cheapening the style, I can live with it.

The 306 horsepower, SAE certified VQ35HR (HR stands for high response) mated with the ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive system is a killer combo. In case you’re new to it, it’s pretty much a smart, hydraulic, AWD on demand system. It’s 100% RWD when cruisin’ on the top end, but from a stop or just creeping off a green light, up to 50% of the power is sent to the front wheels. Still don’t get it? How about this: R32 Skyline GT-R. ‘Nuff said.

I’m still learning/understanding the potential and technological aspects of this car, and my only current complaint is the stock wheel and fender gap fugliness—but it’s nothing  a mild drop and some aftermarket wheels won’t fix.

Hey, suspension manufacturers: hurry up and release your setups, and don’t forget to send a "sample" over to CarDomain. I’ll test it out for you …

No Regrets!

I have heard a lot of people refer to the new Altima coupe as “cheapening the G35 coupe but who cares? The cares are totally different. RWD vs. FWD, no comparison. Nissan has done a very good job of moving the Altima up in the product range. I don’t see people saying the new Altima cheapening the Maxima. And after all they are all still Nissan’s in every other market except for North America. Can’t help that the North American market is stuck on badging and snob appeal. But N-E way the G35X sedan is nice and should not only give BMW owners another option but maybe also the King of AWD, Audi.

Actually, Nissan sells the G35 as the Skyline outside of the states. I don’t think they use the Infiniti nameplate outside of the US, but I could be wrong. The AWD G35′s seem pretty cool, especially since I know some people who have complaints about the RWD models not having the traction you’d find on a BMW. Tuning-wise, I’d imagine it’d be pretty similiar to the options you’d find on any of Nissan’s VQ35′s.

I love the new G35 sedan. It looks so nice that I’m really thinking about getting one. I have one huge complaint about the G35x… Where is the 6mt version???
