Carthedral

Some specimens from the art car world will leave you shaking your head. Carthedral is more likely to make you crane your neck back in awe. Standing nearly thirteen feet tall, this radically modified 1970 Cadillac hearse can do a lot more than just haul a stiff: it’s roomy enough to hold a whole funeral inside, including the choir. According to creator Rebecca Caldwell, who’s been building it since 1999, Carthedral is not just a funeral coach but “a rolling Gothic Cathedral complete with flying buttresses, stained glass pointed windows, and gargoyles”—and yes, a Volkswagen Beetle welded to the roof.  Be sure to visit Carthedral’s website to check out the amazing photos and hilarious FAQs.

FYI – Their web page calls it a 1971, not a 1970.

Oh, and check the web site, I don’t think washing it would help. Based on one of the pictures of the creator with some detail of the car in the background, its a flat black mass of fiberglass globbed together.

Still, kinda cool.

I thinks it’s great. I would love to see the iside though. It would make a world of difference if it was cleaned up a little.

I wonder what the black book value on that piece of artistic genius is?

Hi
I thought about this a little more. I try not to put down the efforts of others, however,it appears to be a piece of crap to me.

Looks like something from Burning Man. Hopefully they’ll set it on fire too this year.

What hurts my brain is I saw that picture somewhere recently and I thought it was a joke… yet here it is again and my brain hurts because I can’t recall where I saw it…

I realize that art is in the eye of the beholder, but this does not move me at all. Lots of work went into it for sure. I’m certain there are many people that will love it. I am not a fan of Gothic and that likely affects the way I look at it.
