"The Death Coupe from Hell"
Posted by: John "Just Lucky to be Here" |
My first car was an ’84 Pontiac Grand Prix very similar to bdg’s Monte Carloand I loved it. It was fast, loaded with options, and never left me stranded. But apparently, I had much better luck than bdg: This photo is identical to my baby blue 1984 SS. All oem.Totalled on an ice patch mishap into a yard and finally a tree. the drivers seat was less than 10 inches wide after the crash. The car had to be pulled sideways off of the 8 inch round soft pine. I drew the line right then and there.. no more old SS for true power.40 mph sideways should not have been that dramatic.(Can you blame me?) If I had been wearing a seatbelt I would have died. I jumped into the passenger seat and hung onto the door handle when I knew crash was inevitable. I looked back to the left and saw how small the driver side seat area became. There was a sharp branch broke off right where my head would have been about a foot from my face.It went about halfway though the car. That would have been a nasty sight if it did what I know hell had in store for me… Check out the rest of the story on his ride page. It makes me wish I’d found this page around Halloween. |

Whew… reminds me of my own “death coupe from hell” and how easily it is to break the rear end loose. Those are definitely not winter cars; I can’t even get out of my own driveway with mine when there’s not even an inch of snow.
Sad to hear the loss of a fellow monte, but I’d rather the car be totaled than the driver. He’s very lucky to be alive.
