CarDomain’s 500,000th Ride
Posted by: Jen AKA SuzyBruisy |
That’s right—as of Monday, CarDomain has half a million rides. We could practically form a voting bloc! While the bulk of our membership resides in the US, the 500,000th ride reflects CarDomain’s increasingly international character. But some of us may have been prompted to wonder—what the hell is a Proton Wira anyway? Apparently, Proton has been around since 1983 as the Malaysian outgrowth of Mitsubishi. The Wira was introduced in 1993 and, due to parts interchangeability with the Lancer Evo, quickly became a popular choice among Malaysian tuners. The fact that these guys race these cars demonstrates what total maniacs they are: the Wira is said to have “no safety features whatsoever” and body panels are so thin you could put your fist through them. For this and other reasons, we’ll likely never see Protons imported to the US—though the UK, Turkey, and many Asian and African countries currently enjoy beefed-up export versions of various Proton models. Let’s all welcome Hasanal. Looks like he’s already gotten a bunch of new pics up on his ride page!

Actually, VW has been in talks to buy a major stake in Proton (effectively owning them).
Gawd I hope so… I really want the VW GX3 concept to be a reality (i’m still holding on to the dream).
