I Am Never Leaving My House Again
Posted by: Jen AKA SuzyBruisy |
Living in out here in the boonies, I’ve developed some addictions I’m not altogether proud of, like NASCAR and discount department stores. But I think today’s find at Big Lots justifies nearly every guilty afternoon I’ve ever spent in that dismal warehouse where unsaleable merchandise goes to die. Burnt Rubber is a DVD set that contains a whopping twenty classic car movies, all for the unbelievable price of six dollars. The films date from 1933 through the 80s, and include such gems as the proto-Repo Man flick Double Nickles, the NASCAR docudrama 43: The Petty Story, and classics of the juvenile-delinquent genre such as Hot Rod Girl and The Choppers. Even the quality is decent. Some of the films are “digitally remastered,” while others were seemingly stamped straight from the original film stock, giving them that charming speckly reel-to-reel quality of old driver’s ed movies. The verdict? Six bucks well spent, especially if your idea of heaven is being glutted for weeks on more hot rods, police chases, “wild teens,” and vintage race footage than you ever knew existed. And if your nearest Big Lots is a couple of counties away, you can still get Burnt Rubber on Amazon!
