Viper Killer

AKA SuzyBruisy

It all started as kind of a joke: build a god-awful big-block beater to whip a coworker’s supercharged Dodge Viper. A group of friends who meet every year in Reno to race their cars were initially just horsing around with the idea, but software engineers Jake and Warner got thinking, and the rest is soon to be history. After acquiring this 1975 Ford Country Squire through Craigslist, the boys miraculously drove it from Oregon to Reno—over 600 miles on what turned out to be a totally clapped time-bomb of a 460.  Undaunted, they’ve torn the engine apart, and plan to run forged pistons, ARP fasteners, a Barry Grant Mighty Demon 750 carb, and a pair of Buick Grand National turbos. I’m a little worried about the stock 2.73 rear gears they’ve got in it, full spool notwithstanding. But Jake figures that this “pig of a car” will run at least low 12s by the time they’re done—fast enough to catch the Viper. What do you think? Are these guys just having a laugh, or will their rolling landmass truly dominate? It all goes down on May 25th. In the meantime, visit the Squire’s cool website for updates on its progress

it would work no problem, but lol your body will be sitting at an almost 45 degree offset after the launch, lol, but you know some 2″ round 1/4″ thick steel tubing would make some great chassis stiffeners ;)

Viper guy: “Dude…My viper got beat buy a 1975 Ford Country Squire with a girl driving. Now my wife is naging me to get rid of the viper.” Friend: “why” Viper guy: “Because I bet my wife that, if I ever lost to a girl in a wagon I would sell it…” Friend: “What are the freaking odds? That should have been a good bet!” To dealer: “You lied! My wife saw me get beat by a wagon, and now my bet with my wife is lost. You got a Squire wagon back there?”

Cool build.

BTW, 9 inch Ford rearends are plenty tough in stock form.
As well, low numeric gears will provide a softer hit, not to mention they have plans for a spool.

That car is hilarious. My 4 ft 11 inch grandma (when I was boy 25 years ago) had a 1976 like photo, non-country squire version with a 460. From what I can remember… you can add all the power you want, the body will eat it unless you do alot of stiffeneing to trick that big slow block into thinking its a lighter car. Good Luck, its not going to work by oem body or engine (nice ideas on the engine btw)
