Stop! Or Don't. Just Be Careful!

"Just Lucky to be Here"
Traffic signs are supposed to make roads safer. But around most places I’ve lived, there’s been at least one pointless traffic signal. Well, now the whole idea of traffic signals is being called into question. This article on Discover says that we might actually be safer without them, due to something called the "risk compensation effect." Basically, that means if people perceive a situation to be dangerous, they act more carefully. The article is pretty interesting, so check it out.  Meanwhile, I’m going to go steal some stop signs—in the name of safety.

Bad Signs?

bdg73: Do you honestly think I’m going to go steal stop signs? It’s a joke, man.

Please don’t steal the stop signs! It reminds me of a hellacious trip into the forest after a road ended in a 78 mercury zephyr with dim headlights. I squeezed between a telephone pole, its guide wire, and two large hardwoods after going airborne over a 200 year old stone wall (precious history there). even the cop laughed … I told him my car was in “that direction” and no car was in sight. I went a good distance in the dark.. all on account there was no stop sign. Funny enough. After they destroyed more dragging it out (because I was in the air on the way in). the cop would’ve let me drive the bent coupe home with him behind me, but I went with a wrecker instead.Besides, I hung on to the wheel so tight it bent into the dash leaving four knuckle prints forever. (I was actually stuck in the car because of my hand pinched between the bent wheel and dash in pitch blackness). anyway…
Please do not steal stop signs, unless they aren’t standing anyway.
