On Saturday a dragster careened out of control into a crowd during an "exhibition burnout" at an event organized to raise money for Cars for Kids. Six were killed, many more injured. More at WMCTV. Video here.

I can’t get over the apparent ignorance of the event organizers or the city in general. There was no crowd control or barricades. These cars are rocket-fast and driving on streets not designed for that kind of power or activity.

What a mess….

Anywhere you got a lot of horsepower, and there’s even potential things are gonna get out of control, ya gotta be careful and thoughtful of where you are and what’s going on around you. It don’t matter if you’re working in a rail yard or are a spectator at a rally race. I’ve seen the latter, standing aside courses at the outside of curves, for example.

Of course, sometimes you do everything right and might still get creamed, like at an air show or fireworks display.

No matter what, it’s terrible that there were so many injured and killed, and that the driver will have to live with that.
