Girls Kick Ass

By David

This blog is in response to the person who asked why I put Barbie in the driver’s seat when photographing her Austin Healey (read my blog from last week). You may have not gotten the memo, but girls kick ass–yes, even when it comes to cars. For a real-life example, meet Liz Miles.

I spent Sunday photographing her ‘68 Camaro. And no, her daddy didn’t help and her boyfriend didn’t build it, she did all of the work herself. She welds. She paints. She fabricates. She does suspensions. And she also built the 500-horsepower small-block engine that she regularly shifts at 7500 rpm.

Liz may not look like the average gearhead–whatever that means–but after talking to her for a minute it was obvious that there was motor oil running through her veins.

Liz needs to bring legal action against AHR for the way she was treated on that TV show. The way she was let go for questioning her shortchange pay, the show manager nickname comments, and obviously the Boss’s wife had it in for her.

Liz showed more knowledge about hotrods in the little time that she was on the AHR show, than the other knuckleheads they let in off the street.

Hope you get your own show someday Liz Miles – what a great last name is it real or a stage name?

Hey Dave,
I laughed when I read your comment about her daddy not helping build her Camaro, I had the same experience about a year ago when I took her car in a Tech Inspection line at a NASA Hpde event at Thuinder Hill.

I saw the Camaro and having built and raced F bodies I said, “I’ll take this one.” I had someone open the hood to check for leaking fluids or battery terminal covers etc and was taken aback by the non stock, no accessory motor and no nonsense engine compartment.

I looked around and asked, “Who’s car is this,” and a little teenage hottie claimed it. I asked the obvious next question, “Who built it?” and she said, “I did’” and I was impressed, she gave me a tour of her buildup and impressed me very much with her skill and knowledge.

Now she is a fixture at the NASA Norcal Midweek Madness Events always getting faster.

Not only can she wrench, she took our Miata out and earned herself a championship with the SCCA. Here’s a pic of her giving Team Cobalt California’s Jeff Lepper a ride on her way to that championship.

Liz is the car “diva”. She has a beautiful car, and she should be proud for doing everything herself! You go gurl.
