Gunn High School Auto Tech

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our feature on Gunn High School Auto Tech. Things have changed a bit since I took auto shop there in the 80s!
Mike Camicia just e-mailed to let me know that they completed their speedster in time to participate in a big Model T endurance run, where they managed to do 200 miles. Mike got the speedster up to 57 mph–big speed for a stock Model T engine and drivetrain! Mike has some photos of the event on Facebook. And you can learn more about their latest autocross adventures on the Gunn Auto Tech homepage.

Mike’s the best. Not only is he a great teacher in the classroom and shop, he’s highly sought after on the trach as well. Here’s a pic of him instructing student Jasmine Vanderpan.

Getting technical training while still in high school can make all the difference for the future.
I attended a Vocational Technical school for 1/2 of each school day for 3 years. When I graduated I had 1200 hours of Machine & Tool Design under my belt, back in 1984. Since then I’ve been only unemployed for less than one month total and ended up earning more than many engineers. I never went to college.
