This Just In: New on the Net

By Jason

Marketing Lackey

After my drive home last night, I had to go to confession because I broke about six of the Pope’s Driving Commandments. I’m just going to start carrying my rosary in the glove box, so I can do my penance at red lights:

  • Hey auto execs, having trouble selling your latest cars as new? Just slash the prices and call ‘em used. It worked for Chrysler, kinda: DetNews
  • The automakers have had an epiphany. Diesel is the fuel of the future. Iowa and Nebraska are pissed: CNet
  • Wow, the Altima coupe looks pretty nice. Good work, Nissan: LA Times
  • The Hummer isn’t safe enough to drive in Australia. Suburban malls and Walmart parking lots, it can handle, kangaroos and other adorable marsupials, not so much: Winding Road

Hey, Jason… What about blogging the latest ridiculous legislation brewing in New Jersey, capitol of legislators with too much time on their hands. From what I heard at work this morning, anyone caught driving over the speed limit 25 mph or more will be cited for “Road Rage”. Apparently this can happen even if the perpetrator is the only one on the road.

I have no problem with punishing bad judgement on the roadways, but basing punishment on such an egregious, yet intentional misinterpretation of actions is angering. Driving is a Privelege, so I guess that means the legislators can do just about anything when it comes to vehicles and drivers.

Can I just go back to the 1970′s, before everything started going to crap?

I’m not surprised at all. As always, Automakers are taking the easy way out. The’re like freaking babys, longing for the fossil fuel teet.

I drive what I drive because it’s what’s available and yes, I like it, but I seriously think it’s time to get something completely different on the market for consumers, in the mainstream.

The Tesla’s overall mechanical concept is one of the best examples of an alternative, if not THE best example. Imagine filling your tank for $2.50. That won’t even buy a gallon of gas, practically ANYWHERE in the U.S. these days, and quite possibly won’t ever again.

Give up performance for this level of efficiency? HA! Anything but. It does 0-60 in just over a few seconds and delivers hoardes of torque from 0 mph. Frankly, it can do things that piston engines can’t… with it’s 12 moving drivetrain parts.

American Automakers grossly LACK a true vision of the future. At a time when there is high importance for them to make leaps, they’re still pidgeon-holing real progress with planned obsolescence.

Sure, they’re making nice cars, but this pisses me off to no end.
