Transcontinental Ford Escort

By Jen

AKA SusyBruisy

Later this week, I’m setting out for Seattle from New York—in a 25-year-old Ford Escort. My Escort has already made the nearly 3000-mile journey once, pre-restoration, when I moved out here for grad school. It’ll be making the return trip on a completely new drivetrain, and I’m sure that some surprises will be in store. Tim’s tales of vapor lock already have me jittery, since I’m now running a 4-barrel Holley and will be traveling through the Rockies and the Cascades. I guess we’ll see how it holds up. If you live in the Midwest or somewhere out on the Plains, please share your tips on cool sights, extreme weather, speed traps, and the like. My internet access is likely to be sporadic, but I’ll do my best to keep you updated.

insane. One wiff of chemistry, pull over and shut car off. Check the left front and back of cyl head often.See any strange colors stand back have it hauled off get on a bus or a plane and put that car into the silent abyss forever, where it should have stayed. Don’t you have a mechanic friend with good advice? I can’t help but wonder an “anti” in good judgement. That car is in my top ten deadliest jackasses non-repairable of aLL of AUTOMOTIVE HISTORY. Your crazy for attempting it. I guess cardomain is here to promote all good and evil. I wish I didn’t find this blog.Good luck to you, and truly take heed to my advice. It is a physics monster just by existing. Snip an egr system out of a 25 year old subaru and drive drive drive if you want a real safe trip back and forth across the continent infinitely with a 1.8 liter masterpiece.I get the hee bee gee bees just looking at that satanic killer called a ford escort.

What’s your intended route? (I never had a problem with Vapor lock in Colorado in my 1968 -but elevation is a lot higher here than in NYC – Stop in to an old school garage -If you go through Kansas, I can give you 2-3 -and have them set your carb) There’s plenty of cool places, but it’s all going to depend on how you get there.
