Man Paralyzed by Flying Speaker

By John

Community Editor

This is an absolutely awful story. When the driver of this 240Z was rear-ended, an unsecured speaker flew forward and broke his neck, leaving him quadriplegic. Just typing that word makes me sick to my stomach, and I can’t even imagine how terrible this has been for the victim and his family. So if you’re driving around with unsecured speakers, get them mounted properly! And always make sure to carry groceries and heavy items in the truck, because in a crash, anything not secured is going to become a bullet. Don’t let this happen to you.

good point. that is indeed awful. My little wagon full of tools is going to have to be tarped down like a truck after seeing this…although the seat is leaning backwards, acting as a trap. What are the odds of this.. this cars have no headrest?

Yeah, reminds me of the things I use to leave in the back of my truck loose all the time. Tire Iron, Speaker in PVC Tube, jumper cables.
Everything is secure in the Silverado now these days though…

Poor guy… to survive and then become a paraplegic.

Unfortunately I’d imagine that a majority of the people that read this blog entry probably also have unsecured subwoofer boxes in their trunks.
If you have flip down seats or a hatchback, it’s IMPERATIVE that your subwoofer box be properly secured. Use backstraps, use L-brackets, shoot screws through the woofer chamber into sheet metal… Just don’t leave the box loose!!
