New Silverado: a Little Off Somehow…
By Evan
AKA NWSilverado
Since 1999, Chevy has been gradually streamlining its Silverado truck, changing the design only ever so slightly for improved aerodynamics. For the next-generation 2007 model, however, they decided to go for a complete redesign. This is usually is a good thing, but when you put the new Silverado next to the Sierra, which one jumps out you? It seems as though the engineers at Chevy forgot to make the Silverado’s lower bumper flow across nicely like the Sierra guys did. And what is it about the grille that just doesn’t fit? The horizontal gaps seem too wide, or maybe the whole grille itself is just too prominent. The fenders seem all wrong too, kind of pushed out instead of flowing with the truck’s lines. I guess I was really hoping to see the front end from the Tahoe make it to the Chevy truck platform. Still, there were some things they got right:
-160 Degree rear door openings for the extended cab doors
-Much more ergonomic and stylish interior
-More Horsepower than in previous years, with available variable displacement.
Sounds good, but I guess I’ll just stick with my now "classic" ‘99 Silverado.

first of all looks aside this is the best silverado ever it drives and performes alot better than the older ones. Second you got to remember that most peeple that buy these trucks plan on doin something to them. the bigger fenders will tuck in sum nice 24 inch wheels or look good riding over some huge mud tire n wheels. the grill well can be changed so many ways, now if u ask me i do think that the avalanche has a better body design but i love my 08 silverado and cant wait till i finish it.

I think it’s important that the grill should fit very well.. not only because it would lessen the car’s style by making it look awkward.. but also because how can it guard the headlights and the vehicle’s front be if it doesn’t fit well?

I see the main problem with the picture of the Silverado—the wheel/tire combination is all wrong! It looks like a full size truck riding on import tires! Beefier tires and 18-20 inch rims would look waaaay nicer in those over-sized fenders.

They killed the stepside! WTF? I don’t like the new Chevy’s. The change in ‘03 was enough for me. To me, they look like they are after Ford in the headlights.

I think the 2007 Silverado is awesome. It looks a hell of a lot better than the fords and dodges and toyotas. I must admit that the single cab shortbed is too high though.

The Sierra does look a heckuva lot better. I still prefer my Dodge Ram, though. ;-D

Yeah, I agree with Evan about the “off-ness” of the new Silverado. When I first saw it, something about the front end–or the grille reminded me of how silly my uncle looked one time he accidentally trimmed too much off his mustache and he ended up with a skinny little line of hairs. The Tahoe front end does look much sportier than the pickup truck front.
