This Just In: New on the Net

Marketing Lackey

I was able to bury the hatched in my two day battle of words with John after we bonded over this video:

  • GM is going to spend over $100 million promoting the new Malibu. Hey GM, for $200,000, I’ll tell all my friends it’s a great car. That’s an offer you don’t refuse: Winding Road
  • Our European friends can now get body art for their Ford Kas. I wanted to post some theories about what different designs said about the driver, but my editors said my post was too crude and revolting for even this blog: Top Gear
  • Watch out Volvo and Saab, there’s a new Scandinavian car on the block (well, kind of, it’s supposed to hit the market next year). It’s called Think and from all the internety stuff they include, this car will surely cause thousands of distracted driver accidents. At least it’s got some really cool features: Pandia
  • Ford broke the hydrogen-powered car speed record, hitting 207.297 mph in a car that emits water. Al Gore could not be reached for comment on the damage water emissions may do to the Bonneville Salt Flats: Leftlane News

Batteries are recycleable. The only thing you’ll have to worry about with electric cars is having them pass you at 130 mph.

The Tesla Roadster costs about 1/10th the cost of running a lotus elise (basically same car). My gasoline bill is $600 monthly. I would save $540 a month if I drove a Tesla Roadster AND would have the ability to embarrass the driver of a Ferrari Enzo at the same time.

Today’s Hybrids, which give a meager few extra miles per gallon have battery packs. Since the gasoline savings would be small with Hybrids, the cost of replacing their batteries would wipe out all savings at the pump. Oh, and the vast majority of today’s hybrids aren’t renowned for their performance.

Then again, Al Gore’s son did have one going 100 mph before he was arrested… Must’ve took a half-hour to get it there.

no doubt Gore wouldn’t mind a little water dripping from the tailpipe.

Good job Ford! Now take that technology and apply it mass scale!

I was so excited as I read in the local Newspaper that they had put in the first Hydrogen refueling station. I thought wow, here’s the first step to a better environment. Now if we can just get cars that run on Hydrogen to come out into the market at a reasonable Price.

I’m worried about all of these electric cars becoming mainstream. Yes their great and yes they produce less emissions BUT, what happens in 5 years when the batteries go sour and they have to replace them. What do they do with the batteries. Let’s hope to hell they Recycle them.
The other thing that concerns me is that living on Vancouver Island we have one Cable that runs to the island supplying the island with it’s energy. If anything ever happens to that cable we are in big trouble over here. At least I have my Genset to keep the lights on…
