Ready for Production: the Aquada

By Jen

The October issue of Hot Rod reports that the Gibbs Aquada, one of the more advanced aquatic-car prototypes in the pipeline, is ready to start cranking out vehicles as early as ’09 and merely needs a manufacturer crazy enough to sign on. The Aquada, which they’re now calling an HSA (high-speed amphibian), is a front-wheel drive, V6-powered machine whose 16-inch alloy wheels tuck up into the chassis, enabling it to plane over the water at up to 35mph. In addition to being unfettered by sluggish nautical speeds typical of amphibians, the Aquada is also one of the few such cars that actually looks good driving on land. And all for an estimated retail price of only $85,000. Click on the photo for video of the Aquada in action.

I would just like to add that this would be a blast at the beach. Especially for those beach front style bars and restaurants. You could just come strait out the ocean and up onto the beach! You wouldnt have to worry about a parking spot, plenty of sand in the rear!

A boat and a car (convertible even!) is not bad for 85 grand. Heck, you dont even need to worry about a trailer!
