I’ve seen the BMW dealer by me do this kind of stuff to their cars. It interesting but I still dont believe in anything like a bra or clear film to “protect” my car. This does give me an idea on how to keep road salt off my rockers in the winter time though!

Yep – I’m with Chris. This stuff has been around in various forms for years. I got mine installed in 2005 and there are at least a few companies that make it. Generally, it’s laser-cut into kits for particular cars or a shop can just do it to fit your car. It goes on like window tint – there is an adhesive back, but it’s stretched and heated into shape. 3M developed the original product to protect the leading edge of helicopter rotor blades. It’s great stuff – rocks don’t chip, but the sun will fade the paint evenly underneath. The only downside is the seam, and most people don’t even see it.

They could have used a better word to define this kind’a transparent filming … Car Bra… useful as an affixation though!

there is a company here in annapolis maryland appropriately named FRONTGUARD that does those on the lexuses at the dealer where i work

umm… nevermind. It’s thick saran wrap.

Still, a cool idea to prevent damage, but I’m skeptical it can fit every car and not have edge issues on some car bodys.

Got a tip for those who already have paint damage:

If you buy one of these covers, and can get matched paint in spray…

Painting the inside of the clear plastic then putting on the cover (after the paint dries) should conceal the damage, save an expensive repaint at a shop AND protect from further damage.

BUT… this would only work if the clear cover is hard plastic and isn’t held on by a Saran Wrap – type bond with the car surface.
