Discovered on CarDomain Video: Cool Vintage Drag Footage
By Jen

Back in 1962, someone sure had a fun day at the dragstrip with their 8mm camera. Check out this video, posted by Felre, which shows a ton of vintage iron going head to head. Watch for the push-started dragster, a pair of Corvettes, and the gasser Henry J. While I’m a fan of both Jan and Dean’s "Drag City" and the Beach Boys’ "Shut Down," my only regret is that you can’t hear the sounds of the cars in the video. Though I imagine most portable cameras didn’t have much in the way of sound technology back then.

First off this video is a time capsule. Thank god the internet will keep it alive for many years to come.
If the date is 62 (and it is totally possible) then that means that there are a ton of brand new if not 2 year old cars rolling down that strip. The 59 El Camino rocks my socks, and the 57 Thunderchicken VS the 60 vette is the coolest race on the video.

That video is great! Love the Beach Boys track too. If it’s really 8mm, those don’t have sound at all, so that’s your explanation right there…
