Quit Hating on the Aztek

Honestly, I’m sick of all the Aztek hate. Seems like the Aztek is the butt of just about every automotive joke out there. It consistently makes every "worst" or "ugliest" car list–most recently scoring top honors with Time Magazine and Hagerty. Get over it, people. The Aztek isn’t that bad. Seriously. Just check out Joe’s Aztek below. Or Dave’s Aztek sporting wing doors. And then there’s GM’s official 2001 SEMA image vehicle with an 11" lift and crazy paint. Still not convinced? Then read Beck’s poem. We have 47 proud Aztek owners on our site. Cut ‘em some slack.

I own and Aztek and I love it… but that yellow riced out thing looks horrible… EEEWWW!!!

Most makers are guilty of making ridiculous or just plain butt ugly vehicles, at least once or twice.
Remember the late ’80s/early ’90s SAAB 900’s? They looked like freaking shoes. If I took the helm of that company back then, my first order of business would have been to have the design staff executed. Sure, I would have had to outsource the thugs, but it would have been worth it. Now, Saabs, well they may be boring but at least they don’t induce the hurl response.
Toyota made the Previa and the Echo. The Previa, although I used to have one and lauded it, mechanically and functionally, was an easter egg on wheels. The Echo? Add colorful paint and wobbly rims and it’s ready for the circus.
Fact is, even today, brand-new strange and/or ugly things are rolling down our highways.
I’m not making excuses for the Aztek, though. I love my Pontiacs, but I think they weren’t enforcing the Pontiac design team’s drug policy when they were working on the Aztek, lol… Sorry, but the moniker even draws fire. They named it after a long-dead ancient civilization that’s known for ritual sacrifice… probably just because ‘Aztek’ sounded cool.
What’s next? the Chevy Maya? Buick Inca?
Okay. Sorry for those I’ve offended. Just having a little fun. Nobody ho knows me takes me seriously, so don’t break with tradition.

Your know as a Pontiac fan I’ve always looked at the Azteck as a challenge to car guys everywhere. Can you make this vehicle cool or attractive ? I think its totally possible and I’ve seen some cool ones around from time to time.
I bet you’ve never seen this one before.

The aztek was always ugly but as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.Me personally I rather walk then be seen in that suv looks like GM slapped parts from different cars to make it.Oh well if you got one flaunted someone will like it for some reason.

Meh… I don’t really see any CRX in an Aztec.
Honestly I never thought they looked too bad, from the front atleast. They’re still exponentially better looking than the Surbaru Tribeca(older one) or Honda Element…. *pukes*
As far as the G8 being ugly, I’d say someone needs an eye exam…

It always looked like an overgrown CRX to me.
To the point where my wife and I still refer to every CRX we see as a “Baby Aztec.”

NO, ACTUALLY, IT IS THAT BAD. IT IS THE UGLIEST THING EVER MADE BY PONTIAC NEXT TO THE G8.
