By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Patrick Ernzen recently took a stunning series of photos of one my all-time favorite cars, the 246 Dino. You can see the rest at Desert-Motors.com.

Thanks Patrick for Your kind reply, afaik licence plates must be demolished in Italy if U plan to export a vehicle everytime. No worries… maybe US regulations allow You to get a valid plate for Your car only with some standard documents (like car id papers). Imho i get a strange feeling, as italian, coz if the car has italian plates and, of course, if they’re still on the car consequently are still valid (or removed from P.R.A. register but still valid). On a public inspection by law enforcement You can get double vehicle id…italian and american ones. (btw same owner but different address :D )
I’m not trying to demolish this art masterpiece: instead i say that u made oustanding photos and superb collector material. It’s so rare to see a beauty like this still rolling and in this shape.
I’m a vespa collector: i have 17 models (oldest is from 1949) and i own 3 different mid 1950s lancia’s appia and ardea, so i can appreciate this kind of cars and specially the ones that haven’t been restored and particularly this one seem immaculate and in perfect shape.
Hope all the best for Pietro and his Ferrari … and of course You for Your photographer job.

congrats!

Thanks guys, glad you like them. I still haven’t gotten through all of my my shots yet, so I’ll be adding more later. Hopefully I’ll have them all finished up later today.

As for the owner and the plates and such, I don’t want to say the guy’s fully name as I don’t know if he’d want me to post it, but his name is Pietro and he lives around Glendale, AZ. Both plates are legit, but obviously the Arizona one is the current one. The car has actually been in his family for over 30 years and he showed me photos of his father and him when he was a kid standing next to it in Italy with those “ROMA” plates. The photos were from like 1974 IIRC. In addition to the plate, he also keeps his dad’s hat and driving gloves on the dash, all of which I personally find very cool. I’m not sure how long ago it was imported, but it could’ve been before regulations were strict or they could’ve just “smuggled” the plates into the US.

Other things that surprised me, the paint is 22 years old, the engine has never been pulled and aside from one seat cover, the interior is 100% original. And let me tell you, this car is CLEAN.

Again, thanks for the kind words everyone and thanks Rob for posting it.

Couldn’t agree more Rob – that car is quite possibly the most beautiful thing that ever moved under it’s own power. Great photographic skills don’t hurt either.

I’ll make a italian vehicles registry seek to see if the licence plate is still active or who’s the actual owner of the car. There are no possibilities that this licence plate can be still on that car due to Italian regulation if it was exported to USA. Is this a fake? Stolen? :-| i’m stumbled!
maybe car is still running with this licence plate. That usa plate over the Italian one reports “historic vehicle” definition + a number: what’s it meaning? Is it a valid licence plate?
