Would You Buy a Car From This Man?

Gotta love Bob Lutz. Here he is giving the hard sell on the new Malibu, which appears to be much improved over the previous generation. It will be interesting to see how it fares against the Camry and Accord.

Oh, and I have to say, I’d totally buy a car from this man. Bob Lutz is The Man.

When I started to play this video, I didn’t think I’d be impressed. But seriously, this car looks awesome! I can’t believe nobody has commented on the interior! It reminds me of the new four-door Maser…

It’s funny listening to upper management describe the product. He knows what he’s selling, not technically but at least in terms of what the consumer is interested in.

I think his presentation was allright. The car is a quantum leap from what was rolling off the production line, obviously. Although they (U.S. Auto Makers) have ignored really serious advances in efficiency, they have been giving a great deal of attention to making the cars more appealing and I think that’s a great thing. The U.S.’s cars used to be the envy of the world, and we can recapture that momentum but it’s not easy to do and takes a lot of work, but some of the most rewarding things in life are the hardest to achieve.

It looks to me that GM realized how well a the high end styled Saturn Aura can do, so why not apply the same idea the the Chevy line. Use high end ideas, but still package them in a relatively cheap American friendly package, all wrapped up with a gold bow tie. I have to admit that the interior is very impression, especially in comparison to the previous model

I’d definitely rent one from this man.

Don’t be so tough on the old guy… Its like getting a sales presentation from my great-grand-dad.(He’s dead and I never met him either.) Honestly though, it makes me curious to have a closer look at one of these cars. I am glad to see domestic car makers stepping up and trying to compete (finally) with import brands’ fit and finish both on the interior and exterior of the cars they build. Finally saw that cutting corners and doing things as cheaply as possible is costing them more in the long run. Bob’s sales pitch is less abrasive than a lot of sales people I’ve dealt with personally, and he did stay away from the loaded question of “What’s it going to take to put you in this car TODAY?”

I don’t think I’d buy anything from anyone with that kind of drawling nasal voice. Someone should tell Bob not to speak in public about the things that go on behind the scenes – when you do marketing, MARKET something! Having said that, the new Malibu looks lightyears ahead of the old Malibus. I’d at least think about renting one…
