17,000 Watt System Moves You

In the world of I.C.E., there are two schools of thought: sound quality (SQ), and sound pressure level (SPL). The SQ guys are on a  mission to achieve sonic perfection and balance, while SPL junkies use the physics of sound to create enough pressure in a vehicle to burst eardrums or stop a beating heart. I’m an SQ guy, but I can appreciate the amount of work it takes to build a competition-quality SPL vehicle. It’s a whole other world.

This video floating around on MySpace shows you what an SPL-junkie can do with 17,000 watts of power in a Ford truck. There’s enough pressure created by his subwoofer to ripple the truck’s sheetmetal like waves breaking on a beach, while the dash, seats, and the rest of the interior jumps and shakes from the immense pressure. Sure is cool, but I’d hate to ride in the truck after a couple thousand miles and a few hundred demos; I’d imagine screws and bolts are going to slowly loosen up and panels just aren’t going to be as secure as they used to be. Squeaks and rattles are the enemies of SQ, but a badge of courage for the bass-head. Mad props this guy for an absolutely crazy system. If anybody has stats on what this posts up on an SPL meter, I’d love to know more!

Impressive, but Id like to see him take on the escalade Steve Meade is creating right now with two RF T15Kw’s, 8 18″, and who knows how many speakers..
Check out the thread on either stevemeadedesigns.com or rockfordfosgate.com forums.

I saw this the other day and was floored by the SPL being generated by his vehicle. Well done and oh my god. I agree though. Water seepage, safety, nutz and bolts loosening. I’d be scared after a few demos…

Sweet ride!!!

Oh man… if that guy wasn’t deaf when he hit play, I bet he will be by the time the song ends. It’s not my cup of tea either, but I can definitely appreciate the sonic power it takes to bulge sheet metal like that.
