Disney's Cars Set To Storm California Adventure Theme Park
By Evan
AKA NWSilverado
Disney will pump more than a billion dollars into California Adventure, a misbegotten second-string Disney theme park located in Anaheim. The park will be completely renovated, and refocused around the films produced collaboratively by Disney and Pixar, including such favorites as Cars and Toy Story. Construction is expected to begin this year and be completed by 2012, and it will showcase new themed areas including "Cars Land," a 12-acre chunk that will be "Disney’s first "land" in any of its theme parks to be dedicated to a single product," according to the Hollywood Reporter. The overhaul will certainly be a hit with my son, though I suppose time will tell if it holds water with other audiences. With attendance to California Adventure stagnating at 1 million fewer visitors than projected, Disney isn’t happy. And with big brother Disneyland looming just a short distance away, bringing in close to 15 million visitors a year, perhaps a Cars-themed shot in the arm is exactly what California Adventure needs.
