With this week’s Face Off, the muscle war rages on. We’ve got Jim’s supercharged 1250-hp Nova up against Emilio’s 9-second Duster. Both cars have extensively documented builds, and both are extremely tough—but only one can win a free set of tires from Discout Tire. Cast your vote now!

The duster got my vote, I am a fan of all old cars and like them both but the duster gets my vote because Not only is it a complete work of art, its not your standard everyday built car, so many ppl have the novas, camaros etc. I am getting so sick of seeing 20 novas at a car show. This duster is unbeleiveable, i think it is One of a hand full that i have even seen that clean and well done! cudos to the owner!!

it’s a nova what can you say about them? It’s a typical chevy thing, unoriginal, unexciting, typical chevy. Really bland car to I mean white paint? who does that anymore except for a resto? Dusters are at least something special, enough of them so that lots of people can have fun but not so many their like nova’s and how every farmer has one sitting in the back grass.

This is probably one of the toughest face off yet!! both cars are amazing and both have amazing craftsmanship. But im voting for the Nova because it is jaw dropping on wat has been done. I havnt seen a nova like that. EVER! This is a really close face off! Best of luck to both!!

One more vote for the Duster! doesn’t nova mean “no go” or something? :)

This is a funny face off, years ago people would drive up to my duster and say “hey, nice nova” and I would just laugh.

Hi everyone and thanks for voting and posting for both sides. I see we have a Brother in Law post already and I am Emilio’s Brother in Law. Please keep the posts constructive and positive. This Face Off had pitted 2 off the best Pro Street rides around and that makes for a great debate. We want to wish Jim and all those involved in the creation of that Nova the best of luck. Voting ends this Sunday the 18th so be sure to show your support for your favorite Bowtie or PentaStar. Have a great weekend everyone.

Hey Shawnthis is Jims brother in law. And let me tell you something. You have no idea what has been done to that nova. The small block was dynoed and made around 800 hp about 3 years ago. So you can stop saying that the nova dosent make that much horsepower because it does, and obviously you dont know what your talking about. With the big block the blower was rebuilt. I dont know the specs of the blower at the time because i havnt been over there for a while, but the big block will make that 1250 hp range. Just because the small block was set at those certain specs, dosent mean the big block is. This big block is probably one of the craziest motors i have ever seen. And if u seriously want to kno the specs. Stay tuned to his page because he his dynoing the motor when its done. So you can stop saying that the car dosent make that amount of horsepower because it does. And if you really would want, Jim would line up against that duster. Jim you got my vote.

Duster got my vote. My guess is that if that nova still has that small block, that duster will kick the crap outta the nova. The 7:1 compression and size of the blower pulley (7% overdrive) is kinda the tell tale sign there. The horse power on that small block chevy engine was ESTIMATED at 850hp but no evidence to back it up…or even time slips. Its just talk…Just because its blown doent mean that he has 850 or 1250 hp.

My guess it has around 600-650…maximum on the small block chevy.

I ran a guy (on the sreet…shhhhhhh!) that had a similar engine in a 1969 Z-28 about 2 years ago…Got’em by about a fender. He was shocked and very disapointed that his bad blown Z-28 got cleaned up by a little black truck. He thought he had like 700hp…he was mistaken…probably only had 550hp. The guy ran the car a week later at the local 1/8 mile track and went 7.55@ 91mph. My trucks best on the 1/8 is 7.41@93 mph. Talk is cheap! The only way to tell who would win is to either..
A.) Actually run the two cars
or
B.)They Chebbie guy supplies hard core dyno number and car info to plug the numbers in to formulas and calculators…bla, bla, bla.

The big block chevy maybe 700-800 hp. It takes a lot of mods, boost and fuel to make 1250 hp.

That Duster really moves man!!!!

GOOD LUCK!

One is a work of art, the Nova is a bunch of bolted together parts. I hate seeing wires… For god’s sake man, It’s Pro Street, HIDE YOUR COIL!!!!!!!

That nova is probably one of the baddest cars around here. Ive seen that car run around here all the time and i have never heard a car that sounds as good as that one does, and even looks thats good. That is one of the fastest cars around here. Ive seen him hammer it coming off of the highway and let me tell you, it hauls ass. No doubt an 8sec car. Jim has my vote!!

The nova is all estimated horsepower… not enough actual numbers to prove that it is infact making the presented 1250hp. My guess, 7% overdrive on the 6-71 blower…750-800hp maximum. The small block 600hp. There are also no quarter mile times to prove that its making that kinda power either, while the duster actually ran 9.75 in the quarter mile.

Sorry to say it, my guess is that being the duster is similar in size and weight and is set up to actually run on the quarter mile…the duster wins.

Good challenge…both are worthy competitors, but IMHO, the Duster wins it.

This car is one of the baddest, fastest street cars in town. Pull up to a light and be prepared to race, no excuses. “I missed a gear” or “you beeped only twice” ain’t gonna cut it. This car has many hours of quality workmanshinp. Pictures do not even come close to giving this car justice. You’ll just have to see it at a light!!!!!!!! Good luck Fester you got my vote!!!!!

If that Nova doesn’t win simply due to the fact that it is so damn small and light, then I will be amazed. The Duster is looking good though, nice exterior.
