Brians Bubble: I’m Not Hating. Honest.
By John
Editor
Brian’s Impala flashed across the homepage yesterday, and it looks really sick. Unfortunately, I have to say there’s no way I’d drive this car. It looks awesome, don’t get me wrong. But see how the springs have been stretched to the breaking point? That’s not safe. At all. And with the shocks hyper-extended, the ride quality has to be sub-awful. Honestly, I’m kind of amazed this car is even drivable. When I was at SEMA, I talked with Danny Perez and Karl Krantz—two dudes who know hi-risers—and both of them stressed the need for safety when reaching for the sky. Brian, hook your Impala up with a proper lift—this killer ride deserves it!

Ghetto culture will rue the day it created these detestable vehicles. Creators and owners of these vile aberration’s will one day fall upon their knees and beg for the forgiveness of Henry Ford… but the Lord of Automobiles will show no mercy. For Henry Ford created automobiles for all purposes of good: transportation, recreation, sport, and show. A hi-rise serves none of these purposes. For it is a foul and twisted perversion that is much like homosexuality. I have not gone too far and but will go further… hi-rises are in fact the root of all current homosexuality. Heed my warning all who dabble in the perverseness of donks, boxes, and bubbles. Your day of penitence is coming and Henry Ford will spit upon your worthless faces and and judge you as the human trash you are.

I still don’t quite understand the point of this “fad”. It’s a $1000 granny car with $3000 wheels. I talked to a customer that came in to my store the other day about his Impala on 24’s. He admited that it’s like driving a larger go cart. He said that it was the most comfortable car to drive in. I suppose he was suggesting I never do such a thing.

It boils down to preference and judgement as always. Same thing when lowering was the craze or 6″ and higher lifts on road-driven pickups, 200 decibel+ stereos and more TV’s than your average home would have. This is just another chapter, and as always it will come and go, leaving some behind to keep the trend going.

Holy crap!! get a clue if you dont know what your doing when it comes to the safety of your vehicle, dont do it or get some help. If you cant afford to do it right or safe dont do it. Its really quite simple. i dont really see hi-risers as a part of the aftermarket community because its like there proud of taking every bit of functionality their cars have and chucking it out the window.

Yea… I was referring to the cheap ass, dangerous way he stretched the springs out. That would be the stupid part…
Honestly, I don’t care for hi-risers or big rims, but I can appreciate any rockin ride that’s done up well. I do think it looks neat, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near the car when it comes truckin down the road.

Not to put words in other people’s mouths, but I think what Jake was getting at was the stupidity of some people who use things in a manner for which they were never designed, engineered, or meant to be used. Instead of doing some research, or spending the money on the right items to do the job, they use what’s on hand or what’s on sale. I can remember a news article I read a few years back about some rednecks using hockey pucks of all things as lifting blocks between the frame rails and body mounts of their trucks. Stuff like that is just asking for injury, as is the springs illustrated in the post above. I only hope that this car, like the beloved Mustang that everyone likes so much, will only be used for show and not go.

Yeah i guess it would cut into the chrome budget. but your also not hating. take a look at what our dear friend JAKE had to say. “The mental capacity of some people (or lack thereof) when it comes to cars astounds me sometimes”. What the hell does that mean. okay so the suspension isnt done right but the idea is there, and i personaly dont own a HI-RISER but why hate on the Idea and style.

Not commenting on the hi-rise aspect of this car Eric, just the half-assed way it was achieved. Why not just weld the control arms into place and bypass springs altogether?? Oh wait, might cut into the budget on your 26″ wheels and your lame chrome applique doing it the right way, huh??

God damn so many haters. Give it up, HI-RISERS are a part of the after-market car community now. Kinda because they were a huge hit at SEMA tells you something. So stop your hating and work on your own car then maybe you could be in the blog too.

The mental capacity of some people (or lack thereof) when it comes to cars astounds me sometimes. You wouldn’t believe how many fuel line compression fittings I sell to people who want to use them for their brake lines. Laziness…

That is some serious gangsta engineering right there!!! A ride that stiff might as well have no suspension at all. (I’m sure it feels like that anyway.) I like the close up shot of the springs… like the guy is proud of the backwoods gerryrigging that he has accomplished. “F@#k safety and functionality, it sure does LOOK cool!” I don’t get that mindset at all.

Since when did Cardomain fall in love with Hi-risers? I agree that work has been put into them, but it’s like the fascination with being higher off the ground has somehow blocked the truth- what is so great about 24s? Why do people put safety aside to stand up a few more inches? (the drivers side front wheel looks like it could fall off) Why can Chrome everything and lime green paint be allowed in this application and not on others? And why is nothing said about the tasteless use of chrome? I just don’t get it.
