Crashing For Fun
By David

While it’s usually wrong to admit that you go to hockey games for the fights or a car race for the crashes, sometimes a little mayhem is good for the soul. We got plenty this past Friday during Crash-A-Rama, an orgy of crashes and crunches. Orlando Speedworld, our local oval track, hosts two Crash-A-Rama events per year and the evening schedule usually includes such visceral treats like school bus figure-8 racing, car roller derby, trailer racing and a demo derby or two.
We usually go as spectators, but this time two coworkers entered. J.G., our art director, and Joe, our ad salesman, prepped a 5.7-liter Camaro for the evening. Preparation was pretty basic: change the fluids, knock out the glass, gut the interior and add some tire slime. Two nights before the event we had a little painting party. I’d like to tell you that our guys kicked butt, but after starting out strong the Camaro overheated. Some photos of the car can be found here, and my brother Matt shot some video of the evening’s skid race.
