Evo X vs. Evo IX

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Motor Trend just tested the new Evo back to back with the old Evo. So what did they think? "Whereas the IX is frenetic, raw, and noisy, the X is calm, cool, and collected… The clarity and rawness of the IX has been smoothed over in the X, with no replacement in terms of excitement. Though the X may be more proper and polished when it speaks to you, the IX tells better stories." Read the rest over at Motor Trend.

I don’t know who exactly is supposed to buy this car. The “mature” buyer over 30 (like myself) would just as soon pay a few more bucks for the 335xi and get a faster car. I checked Car and Driver’s test numbers and noted that my wife’s old C32 will eat an Evo X for breakfast in every acceleration category. Worse, the distance between them gets greater as the speeds rise (0-100 is like 2.5 seconds different?!?!?). I’m sorry but it’s not a good thing when the wife’s automatic transmission, Brittany-Spears-White ‘Benz can put a foot square up your a–. And of course, you’d get the added honor of being laughed at by all the young gearheads who know you’re driving a fatter, slower version of the old Evo.

Sorry Mitsu, but no thanks. All you had to do was take the ridiculous wing off the back of the IX and I’d have bought one. You didn’t have to dillute the performance too! If our wives can handle real performance, so can we. Sheesh.

IMO EVO X is a wholesale different beast! EVOXparts made 87 WHP by adding 2 parts.

Cheers,

The new ones are too heavy, same with the Skyline GT-R. Too luxurious for where the lines came from. What ever happened to basic shifting, when having cruise control was a big deal?

Change in this case is great! I work for a dealer whose one of the top sellers and EVO specialists. We are drooling for the new shipment of the nine we are slotted to recieve. Those changes do include the for mention covers yet evos have always been flash and look at me. I own the finest sports car out there and im one of the few who have one. So in short they may have some creative flair to them but they are bar none still the baddest ride to own. Just in my personal opinion. So keep it between the ditches and lightem up!
