Rein-car-nation: KITT to Become Mustang?

By John

Update: It looks like the rumors are true, and KITT is indeed going to be one of Ford’s famous Ponys. Check out the leaked photo below, and head over to Jalopnik to get the full story. Our friends over at Jalopnik are reporting that the next incarnation of KITT might be a Mustang—and he’ll be equipped with a breathalyzer ignition lock. Kidding. While some around the office opined this is heresy—and the General can’t be happy about losing this crime-fighting advert—I don’t think it’s a bad idea. But I would like to suggest that Huntington Beach Bodyworks build KARR, KITT’s homicidal, ill-tempered, doppelgnger. Seriously, just look at the Mustang they brought to SEMA! If those guys couldn’t make a compelling foe for KITT, I don’t know who could!

Just a quick note to money bags vlad up in here. The reason we’re slating the mustang is not because its simply a mustang (and for your info i can afford one), but because KITT was the first Trans Am off the production line in 1982. Noone had seen one before that and it really was ‘the car of the future’ as KITT was supposed to be. It had sleek lines and was totally ahead of its time design wise, and after universal got at it couple with Larson they made a car, and memory that will stay with us forever.

Most of the people who are slating our opinion has come from them not being born when the first series’ were out, so they don’t know the relationship between all us hardcore fans and the original cast of the series. KITT sould always be a car of the future, not based on retromobile made to look tough (which KITT was never supposed to be) and done badly.

KITT was programmed to ‘preserve human life’ so wheres this ridiculous ‘attack mode’ come from, and as for the voice…oh dear jesus. ‘Hello Mike’; i can’t repeat what i uttered when i heard those words on the trailer.

I agree with all the hardcore Knight Rider Fans that NBC have rushed it because Glen Larson refused to do his movie with them. NBC have crapped themselves and tried to get theirs out first to crush any chance Glen may have in making his movie successful. They have failed in my opinion. NBC’s Knight Rider is a joke; it’s a continuation of a story, but not Knight Rider…..Team Knight Rider. Another lame attempt to milk some more money out of people who loved the original.

I’m sure the kids will love this series cos its new and exciting wqith a hot car, but before you start slinging insults around VLAD, remember that some of us own the original replicas which have cost far more to restore and replicate than your precious Mustang ever will, so I think the ‘money’ and ‘can’t afford’ comments can stop. I suggest you go to the Knight Nationals and see how many people couldn’t afford a Mustang there lol!

We all choose different rides in our life, cos we’re all different, but this is an insult to the original vision Larson had back in the 80′s. His film is a recreation of the Pilot episode, but done in present day. I suggest we all put our faith in him once again as we did with the A-Team, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, the Fall guy, Battlestar Galactica and so on, and i am SURE he won’t let us down.

Let’s hope that NBC are happy with their Mustang GT500KR with some papaer mashe and cardboard boxes nailed to it, and don’t forget you too can get your grille to look like that with the crap lights off ebay! It’s a shame that someone at NBC watched Transformers last year and copied it.

Rant over, have faith people, the film will destroy this.

Regards

Ric

Come on!! I would go with the idea of a Mustang, Cobra for that matter, but we all grew up on the Trans Am. Why the hell would you defect to the Ford. Granted, the Mustang is a SAWWEEEET ride, and I give it props, but come on! Put him together in the form of a reincarnated Trans Am or Camaro at the absolute very least! Am I the only one that sees the sin of going from a General Motors to a Ford? I guess what we say won’t matter, but damnit, where’s the saneness of people who re-create things like this?

Seems like a lot of people seem to be riduculing this mustang only because they cant have a car of their own like that… especially for the scion, cavalier drivers in here. And not only that evan if you think camaros are so sweet why could the 350 barley compete with the 5litre? Face it folks anybody who ridicules mustangs are obviously jelous because they cannot own one of their own.

Oh well, it was cool to think they would use a Trans Am. Does anyone remember the Bandit Series that they had for a brief while. They used a Dodge Stealth for that show. You’ll get used to it if the shows good. Better have a sick ass body kit and not just be a black Mustang or I’ll be pissed.

The only thing that’s tough about the look of this car is trying to supress the urge to laugh when you see it. Honestly, the hood scoops coupled with the stainless steel spikes that they pulled off of cujo’s dog collar scream “Badass of fairy town.” Just when I was starting to think a flat black paint job could make ANYTHING look tough… this rolls out of the cream-puff factory to prove me wrong.

It feels like every month some new car has surfaced as being the potential next KITT. I hope and pray it is not a Mustang, especially this one. Make a custom 2009 Trans Am and call it a day!

I’m with Bobby. What’d they make the hood scoops out of, squashed cardboard tubes?
