Retro Rides Camaro Progress Report

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

My buddy Jeff (AKA OzHemi) is making great progress with his Retro Rides Camaro (a ‘69 Camaro with a ‘99 drivetrain, dash, wiring, etc.). He just finished doing the hide-away headlights. The ‘69 used a vacuum system from the factory, but there was no room for it all with the ‘99 inner structure, so Jeff built his own electric setup, using motors from a ‘67 RS. It took some time to get everything mounted properly and to sort out the wiring, but it works like a champ. Check out this video of the headlights in action!

Having enough vaccuum was not the problem at all, it was room for all the stuff needed for that original setup..the vac tank, the vac actuators, etc,etc just didn’t all fit. Plus the electric setup I did now works perfectly!

looking good. I see the updates here from the beginning. Interesting to learn vacuum light covers..the old carb engines sure had enough to go around. I wonder if it would work even if there was room on the delayed injection. a big canister and a high idle maybe…
