R.I.P. Khalid Bakhressa

CarDomain member and Tanzanian rally driver Khalid Bakhressa died in a tragic wreck during a race last month. While his story was largely unknown outside of the United States, CarDomain learned of the loss after receiving an unusual amount of site traffic from internet searches of the driver’s name: Bakhressa had a ride page for his 350Z dating back to when he was based in Florida. At the time of his death, he was driving a Subaru Impreza N12B in the Clubman Rally Championship in Zanzibar; he reportedly crashed, sustaining fatal head trauma, after swerving to avoid a group of village children who had strayed onto the road during the race. Bakhressa was the 22-year-old son of a local tycoon, and had been enjoying promising successes on the East-African rally circuit; he’d been competing well in a number of regional races throughout the 2007 season, beating out 70 other drivers to become champion of the Dar es Salaam Motor Rally back in September.

i think that African rally should be improved and with the help of polices in the areas where there is villages so as to avoid the tragic accident like what happen to Khalid. But here in Tanzania at Kilimanjaro region there is a old rally road which is used up to now and there is only two villages they pass and only one public road which they used as starting point.May god bless Khalid

Problem with Africa is that they rally on public roads. Once I was on a safari tour and a couple of cars zipped past us through villages!

Sad loss

I’ll pray for this guy, I don’t like young ones dying so early doing the things they love.

Sorry to hear that.

Those open rally courses’ biggest hazard, I think is the spectators. These were kids, but even the adults show an amazing lack of thought by putting themselves well into harm’s way.

Sounds like a stand-up guy. I’m always sad to hear about another loss of life in the rally world, but it sounds like this one is especially sad.
