Second-Gen Camaros and Firebirds: Huge in Iran!
By Jen
Editor
While checking out Bahman’s flawless ’76 Camaro, I noticed this weird demographic anomaly: for some reason, 2nd-gen Firebirds and Camaros are disproportionately represented among Iran’s top rides. In fact, these 70′s muscle cars occupy the top three spots, and there are five Camaros and three Firebirds (along with a Valiant, a Ford Granada, and even a Cadillac) in Iran’s top 20. While I realize that the idea of there being even any GM muscle in Iran might strike some as a little odd, the fact that Camaros and Firebirds seem to enjoy a solid following there is nothing short of awesome. Turns out there’s a pretty considerable car-culture in Iran, and a lot of it centers around barely-vintage American rides. Check out Iran Trans Am, a Persian Trans Am site run by CarDomain member kamran! I say, build these guys a NASCAR trackĀthere’s hope for world peace after all.

I have a feeling that the vintage of these cars stems from the fact that there has been an embargo on Iran since the 70s – not like you couldn’t get an American car from a country other than the US, but it wouldn’t surprise me if that has something to do with it.
I didn’t know you could ride polar bears or sleep in an igloo Jen – although that would explain the frostbite and the scarring…

hass:
there is much to be learned, between Iranians and Americans. Understanding and thus accepting others as they are is what puts weapons away.

I just hope that happens someday without all hell breaking loose.

It’s gotta be EXTREMELY ironic, living in a country with the 4th largest oil production capacity, experiencing gas shortages and driving an American muscle car.

But then, well America is the #1 producer of muscle cars.

Lol, my mistake, hass, don’t go getting all ruffled now. I come from Canada, where everyone lives in igloos and rides polar bears, so I don’t know any better. It’s fixed

Ummm….Iran Trans Am is not an “Arabic” site – it is a PERSIAN site. The language of the people of Iran is PERSIAN (aka “Farsi”) not Arabic. Farsi is an Indo-European language distantly related to English, which has loaned many words to the English language including words like Paradise and spinach.
The entire middle east is not one large desert where everyone rides camels and speaks Arabic.

iranians were tired of all their gay little scooty-puffs
(what’s that 3 wheeled scooter called again?) so they imported some
American V-8′.
