Fast & Furious 4 Mustang Built In 6 Hours

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

The Stangpede Mustang club of San Diego took a stock 2008 Ford Mustang GT and built a full-on show car in just six hours. And they did it in front of a live audience at the 2008 San Diego International Auto Show (which happened in December of 2007–go figure). Mods included a LNR body kit kit from Blow-By Racing, TruFiber GTS hood, Saleen 550-hp supercharger system, suspension and brakes, MAC full exhaust system, Classic Design Concepts Glassback roof, and a vertical door kit from Vertical Doors, Inc. Oh, and the car will have a staring role in the upcoming Fast & Furious 4. You can get the full scoop and see more pics over at Mustang Evolution.

What is it with everyone attacking each others rides? Surely we all have a passion for cars. In Britain there is a lot of respect for the ‘imports’ but there is plenty of American Muscle. I would say from what I’ve seen, based purely on the street racing scene here in England, in the main. The Americans have the edge in straight line speed bar supras skyline etc who are about equal, but in the corners and the twisties, the japs edge it due to coilover suspension and lighter more nible chassis (Vette Z06 owners will disagree.)

Personally the Fast and The Furious could do with some British Muscle. TVRs Nobles Ascaris and Aston Martin now that would be sweet!!

LOVE MUSTANGS…BUT THEY SHOULD BRING AN AUDI TT-S TYPE FOR PAUL WALKERS CAR, HAVE THEM SOUP IT UP TO 400 PONYS,AND GIVE THE CAR A ELECTRIC BLUE COLOR, NOW THAT WOULD BE SICK!!!

Just thought I’d let you know K that the current 4.6 in the GT gets 300 hp NA. They upped the rating from 260 back in ’05 with the redesign. The current 6cyl ‘Stang now has as much as the old GT. From what I can tell, that’s true. Don’t know ’bout the Shelby though. Carroll has been notorious in the past for underrating the performance of his cars.

You should have to take an IQ test as well as an English 101 class before you’re allowed to post in here. If you don’t like the movie don’t see it. They’re going to keep making them as long as they keep making money, which will probably be for another couple of installments, so I hope all you babies can handle it. Also, for people like J_dizzlin, while I can tell you have a way above average intelligence level from your name and how you spell/capitalize/punctuate etc., you really shouldn’t try to correct people on things they didn’t even mention, especially when you yourself are wrong (It was an s15 in tokyo drift, just so I can further all the fan boy banter in here)

meh… I am kind of skeptical about this movie. From what I heard the director from the 3rd will be returning which means plot and stunts wont suck. However, I hear Paul Walker will be reprising his role again and considering he is a less than good actor I wouldnt jump the gun just yet. On a side note… nice stang… way to build it in 6 hours… yada yada yada. Now why doesnt ford figure out a way to get 300 horses (or even 400) naturally aspirated and maybe not suck anymore?

The only thing I don’t like about the F & F movies is that they make the average person who dosn’t know a thing about racing think that drifting is the fastest way around a corner. That part just pisses me off.

Just to throw this out there for you Matt, that was a Saleen in 2F2F that gets crushed by the truck, or atleast a replica, so if your meaning it was a replica, I apologize for trying to correct you and retroman he’s right there’s no Civic.

I might not always get my facts straight. I never saw much of the movies cause I never could stand the rice. Bad ‘nough pullin’ up to a stoplight behind some fart can let alone having a group of them together. Besides, I was watchin’ Gone in 60 Seconds and Vanishing Point instead. Glad 2 know the producers did keep the V8 in the Stang tho. Thanks all for getting the facts straight.

hey guys, just so you know… all of the stunts done in tokyo drift were actually shot using actual cars. given, the actors were not doing the stunt driving, but they did bring in professional drifters to do the driving. also, the mustang that did the downhill run at the end of the movie had a V-8 in it. they never actually swapped the RB26det into the mustang. if you watch the bonus features, you can clearly see a card-ed V-8 in the engine bay. as for the new one, i agree with tony. there definitely shouldn’t be lambo doors on a mustang… there are certain things that you just don’t do, and that happens to be one of them…

the car looks good but a mustang with vertical doors????? what the f#^%!! and dizzlin sorry but it was a RB26DET engine(u can see it in the spark plug cover)inline 6 turbo, but on a s15 silvia.its a skyline R34 motor.silvias come with a inline turbo 4(SR20DET). u see, that motor swap in japan is as comon as a k series(rsx)engine on a eg civic chasis.

ya the f&f movies r fun to watch in all, but ill have to agree with cknarf…i mean really all they do is show a whole bunch of unbelievably moded and riced out cars racin around like that would ever happen, i mean jeez thats nothin like the street racin ive seen. also ya retroman and matt, that wasnt a evo or skyline from tokyo drift…which was the fakest of all f&f movies, that was a silvia s14…just so u know

retroman, u dont know what u are talking about, at least get the cars right. Do some research 1st before u talk and make no sense and get everything wrong.

It wasnt a Mitsu inline six in the fastback, it was a nissan skyline turbocharged six-cylinder motor, also they didnt yank out a 289, in the movie their was no motor in the fastback. The mustang in 2F2F, wasnt a Saleen, it was a regular mustang with body kits, and the Civic you said outlasted a Viper wasnt a Civic. It was a Mistu Lancer Evo and Eclipse Spyder.

Jan 23, 2008 at 4:09 pm

When are they going to stop ricing out American muscle cars? Thanks to F&F, everyone now knows a Mitsu inline six will fit in a classic Mustang fastback. Why would anyone yank a 289 for that? I’m not ditching small cube turboed and NOSed engines, I own one(minus the N20). They can produce alot of power, but if you got the space for a V8, use it. The other thing I hate ’bout F&F is that the Saleen gets crushed, the Corvette slams into a pole, and the Civic somehow manages to out accelerate a Hennessey Viper. Nonsense!!! That’s a disgrace to street racing and motor sports in general. A Civic may take a few American cars, but it will never beat all of them, especially a Hennessey Viper.

Good God… They’re making ANOTHER F&F ?! When are they going to retire such a terrible series. The mustang is nice, but the vertical doors ruin it. Such a terrible idea..
