My Car That Got Away

By Katherine

AKA atomicalex

With the news that Saudi Arabia is lifting the ban on women driving, this makes even more sense to gripe about. Two Saturdays ago, the Wall Street Journal ran a great piece on "Cars that got away." There was only one thing wrong with it: all the car owners were men, and all the ladies were in the kitchen. As I surf around CarDomain, I find that there are a heck of a lot more car chicks out there than I run into on a daily basis, and I bet every one of you has a great story about a car that got away. Mine is about a yellow VW G60 Corrado that I passed up because I knew my marriage would never survive it. Corrados are the high maintenance girlfriends of the auto world–they $50 and $100 you to death. But no matter about that, I have a good job now! Check out RollyG60’s yellow Corrado to see why I was so smitten.

How about you ladies – tell me your stories.

Ahhh yes. I remember driving one of those when I was looking for a car but, I agree they’ll $100 you to death. I’ve always had my eye on a 68′ Chevelle and when we bought our Kia there was one on the lot. Sure it needed a little TLC and wasn’t “exaccctly” what I was looking for but, it would have been pretty sweet to have. I knew though that if I bought it, it would have been the end of our marriage. So set aside the Mid-life Crisis and move on… Maybe after the Kids have moved out ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Never had one of my cars get away: I’ve kept every car that I’ve ever owned. It’s going to catch up with me, one of these days. I’ve certainly had a lot of cars get away that I *should’ve* bought. Like this mint ‘58 Pontiac Bonneville that sold on eBay in Idaho for 1800 bucks a couple of years back. I’m still kicking myself over that one.
