Boss: DARPA Urban Challenge Victor

By John

DARPA’s Urban Challenge is a race where teams build cars which must drive themselves through a 60 mile course—complete with traffic, stop signs and randomly placed obstacles—in under six hours. If that sounds insane, that’s because it is. Completely. Just check out this video of Boss, the 2007 winner, in action. Is that impressive or what? So how long will it be before you might be able to buy a car that can drive itself? Well, according to one of the dudes who built this hyper-intelligent vehicle, it might be available in as little as ten years. What do you think, is this a good idea?
