NOS Treasure!

I am in NOS heaven! Okay, not that kind of NOS. I’m talking about New Old Stock, those rare discontinued parts, never installed on a vehicle, that you can pick up basically "new" on eBay—give or take a little shelf wear. Today, the ultra-rare factory-fresh cylinder head I recently ordered for my 1984 diesel Escort arrived at my desk in its original Ford Motor Company box, still sticky with Cosmoline. I’m so stoked, though I’m going to be living on Kraft Dinner for the next few months: the head cost me more than the car I bought it for, but I decided it was worth it to avoid the uncertainty and potential for disaster involved in getting my existing cracked head welded up and re-machined. I’ve gotten NOS stuff for my cars in the past, always from eBay, mostly just trim and interior pieces that they don’t make anymore. But this is by far my most significant NOS purchase to date. How about you? What’s your coolest NOS find, and where’d you score it?

I just got my NOS 1.9 carb head in the mail today. It’s amazing to look at, I just don’t know what to do with it now.

My greatest NOS find was a tail light assembly(yes, assembly, not just the lens) for my ‘72 Ford Escort Mark 1 wagon. A really rare find, I would say. It was still in its original, already dusty Ford Motors Company brown box when I got it from one of the old shops selling Escort parts here. And it still is in that box since. Unfortunately, it’s just one for the driver’s side. I am keeping it now as a spare, still hoping to find its “partner”.

Try looking for parts for an engine with fewer than 10,000 made. Finding genuine Lotus engine parts for my Spirit R/T can be a pain sometimes even tho its almost 30 yrs newer than Rob’s Satellite. That’s part of the joy of owning a Dodge Turbo III engine or any rarity for that matter. I don’t have the pics up yet for my finds, but hopefully soon.

Congrats on the purchase!
.
Considering on how rare those cars are, I am really impressed!
.
My rarest NOS find was the wheels on my RoadMonster.
They are aftermarket, but hard to find. It took me two years
to find a set, and I found a second NOS set last year, so I bought it.
I have a constant eBay search running, plus friends and relatives always on the lookout too.
.
Again, congrats!

speaking of 1987s and ebay..old sube stuff I have scored and never found again. Once upon a time there was “performance” guage fenders (back when subaru had real boxer engines in real rally cars)..and found one to match my rare one I had, then rear quarters pre made, I have never found again, a complete vacuum type distributor with a dual chamber brand new (200 bucks at rock auto- 1 dollar on ebay). Avoiding ebay electronics is my only qualm with them.I hope to keep finding stuff. Although mentioning stuff like this as good brings triple prices at said ebay when the slimy marketing finds the comment. Err hum. Am I a bit paranoid? ya think?

Still-in-the-box Leistritz exhaust for my ‘87 Civic Si. I paid about $35 for it via eBay. (That was back when eBay was still new.)
