Follow the Yellow Brick Road!

The city of Schiedam in the Netherlands hired an artist to paint an entire street yellow, and while the effect is pretty cool, this color choice might make it a little difficult to spot school buses. Between the tire wear and oil droppings from the cars traveling on it, the surface probably didn’t look this bright for long, but somehow, I don’t think practically was a big concern with this project. Check out more pics at BaraSkit.

well cardomain, we don’t have a (yellow) school bus here.
Most of our kids are going by bike, much better than just sit all day:)

Haha, thank goodness it isn’t a two lane. There might be a problem.

Got news for ya. Proceed in time 10 or 20 years, I predict that blacktop will be coated with light colors in a similar way in many urban areas.
-
The heat island effect, coupled with global warming will make this necessary. Likewise, rooftop coloring may also be required or encouraged in all areas, as it’s starting to be a requirement in some places.
-
100 years ago, cities weren’t as big, and temperatures weren’t as high. Also, asphalt was rare, mostly nonexistent and roads were paved with stone and other materials (there were even wood-paved streets, one still in Philadelphia that I know of).
-
Note that the above speculates that temperatures will continue to increase. This will happen unless there’s a magnetic pole shift, large-scale volcanic event, asteroid strike or God-knows-what-else.
-
Yeah, I know. We’re not in Kansas anymore.
