Million-Mile Monster
By David
aka Highspeedhijinks
Frank Oresnik of Medford, Wis. is only 1,200 miles away from a mileage milestone on his 1991 Chevy Silverado. Nope, he’s not about to hit 100,000—he’s already done that ten times over. Thats right, he’s is about to roll his "rock" to the 1,000,000-mile mark. Frank bought the truck in 1996 when it only had a mere 41,000 on it. Since then, he’s used it to deliver seafood across 3 states, racking up and astonishing 85,000 miles a year. Take heed: he claims that he made it to that million-mile mark by getting his oil changed every 3000 miles and sticking with regular maintenance. If that’s the case, then Frank has had over 300 oil changes done to his truck on the original engine. The Guinness world record for highest mileage on a vehicle is car is currently held by Irv Gordon and his 1966 Volvo P1800—the pair have traveled 2.5 million miles since Irv first bought the car the year it was made. What’s the highest mileage you’ve ever personally seen on a vehicle?

My toy ‘97 Astro currently has 298K miles on it. Purchased it for $250 to run the BA/BE Rally. I’m slowly cleaning and fixing. It will eventually be painted like The A-Team Van.

NO VEHICLE IN THE WORLD BETTER THAN A DODGE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A GM OR FORD OR IMPORT WITH MORE THAN 400,000 KMS ON ORIGINAL ENGINE. I AM A MECHANIC AND CHEVY VEHICLES AND FORD ARE JUNK AND I WILL NEVER OWN ONE AS LONG AS I LIVE. EVERYONE THAT LIVES IN A 5 MILE RADIUS DRIVES A CHRYSLER PRODUCT. I HAVE SEEN 1,600,000KMS ON ORIGINAL DODGE ENGINE NO REBUILD. PLEASE NOTE I WAS A GM,FORD AND IMPORT FAN THEN SWITCHED TO DODGE ONLY. DODGE RULES THE WORLD!

My 88 F250 has 1.3mil Km on it but it was a farm truck that was always making trips and my dad owned it since new… There also is a lady in town here that just traded in her 86 Corolla a year or two ago with just a little over 1mil KM all original except for brakes and starter, rather impressive i thought…

My Dad had a 79 Chevy truck with over 400,000 miles on it, was still running strong the day he sold it too! Only reason he got rid of it was the fact the doors were falling off of it. (Typical Chevy runs great but rusts like an SOB)

I read all of the posts, very impressive, . . . NOT!!!
Read this, and better believe it, cause it’s A BENZ BABY…
“TALK ABOUT A cash cow that has “jumped” over the moon four times. A Greek taxi driver’s beloved and durable Mercedes-Benz 240D has followed its master every step of the way for over 2.85 million miles (over 4.5 million km).
In Greek Drachma taxi fare, that would be incalculable, the number of stories exchanged between driver and passengers untold.
The achievement of Gregorio Sachinidis’ Benz is such that it has been given its own place at the Mercedes-Benz museum in Stuttgart, Germany. Now, lovers of automobiles can marvel at this 1976 model, which has outlasted even its lunar rocket counterparts. Still in perfect running condition but now held in perpetual proud pose, this car that never gave up has been honored by its own German creators.”

I don’t know for American Diesels, but every German Diesel has to go over a mill, even some gas vehicles do too.
My budy Kyle, here in Canada, Manitoba, has 1984 F-150, Gas, with 1.2 mill. kilometers, and thats first and only American, Gas vehicle, i’ve seen with so much km.

#1 Friend Amanda has a 1992 Accord with 501,000.
#2 Friend Sam has a 1982 Saab with 579,000.
#3 Friend Hillary has a 1991 Subaru Legacy that just died last week with 699,501.
haha.
All she wanted was for it to make it to 1,000,000.
But it didn’t want to go over Snoqualmie I guess.
haha.

well first of all…these are freeway miles…not city..remeber that, and plus he maintained it pretty well, so its pretty cool and all but its nothing too special..any daewoo properly maintained, and drven on freeway mainly can survive that long…u want something amazing, my buddys 1996 dodge grand caravan, 572,000 miles…city he does all schedueled maintenace on it, but when it comes to a stop light as soon as it turns green, 90% of the time he redlines the poor thing…never a problem with the engine although i should mention the transmission sometimes cant shift into 3rd

When I finally got rid of my 88 Camry it had 220k miles on the original engine and tranny and still ran trouble-free. 2.6 Million on the P1800… I love those cars to death and knowing that one of them is still racking up records makes me happy.

The most miles? Hmmm, when I sold my Eclipse it had 172,000 miles on it. My Eagle had 103,000 at the time of sale. My Elco just passed 70,000.
My Uncle’s 1988 Cheyenne had over 300,000 miles. However the tranny didn’t shift into 3rd or 4th, the throttle body was rusted solid and bogged bad, the engine ran on 5 cylinders of the 8, and the gas gauge didn’t work.

Whoever at CD: Unless you’ve blogged this P1800 Volvo before, if there’s any justice on Earth you really should. How many 1-owner cars go 2.6 million miles. Every indication is that it will make it to 3 million.

Damn bullet-proof little wagon.

Wish we still had it…

After we sold it, we saw it all the time.

Who knows, it’s probably still chugging along, somewhere…

Hmmm… nothin’ too special. My ‘93 2.5L daily driver Dodge Spirit is about to hit 140K and my R/T is currently resting at 107K. I think the most I’ve seen other than on my brother’s Peterbuilt(diesels are meant to take High miles ya know) was on the old family Probe. Had 230K before the tranny started to go. It depends where you get your miles too. If you’re running cross country all the time, that’s not as hard on the engine as moving in stop and go city traffic every day.

81 international cabover tractor trailer (model 9670).350 cummins, basic 10 speed. A rental truck that literally ran for days at a time. the odometer broke at 1,378,000 miles, and drove full speed ahead by an owner operator for 5 years after that. Well documented , of course, it was up well over 2 million in just about 15 years before the realization that the steel framing and popped rivets of the cab weren’t going much farther..(no cure for this steel injury, unless you weld until hardened enough for driving yourself to hemmerhoids).it wouldn’t even hold a windshield tight anymore. I am one of several that actually sought this trucks parking spot, just for pictures. It is indeed quite a feat. I have a photo of a shadow in the drivers seat..defying all logic to the surrounding light sources.(rumored to be nuclear). The original engine went up and over the 1 million before needing something internal. I am having a hard time believeing a crazy cranked v8 silverado can do this…unless diesel and driving at the bottom of its tallest gear for very long periods of time. If this question was for cars…the old saab with that crazy leaning four cyl is the first I have ever seen with 1million (and it had many head jobs)
