Here Comes the Challenger! Official Production Info

By David

aka Highspeedhijinks

Here are the official photos and production information on the 2009 Dodge Challenger. The final say from Ma Mopar should put an end to all the speculation: production is set for April 21, 2008 and availability should be May or June 2008. The first 5,000 cars will all be SRT8 models with the 6.1 liter Hemi and automatic transmission. Other models will follow, including base models equipped with the 3.5 HO V6. The only down side I can see concerns the available transmissions: the V6 can be had with only a 4 speed automatic. Both HEMI V8s (5.7 and 6.1) will eventually be available with a 6 speed manual. Sorry Mopar junkies, no 4-speed pistol grip option. For the rest of the option list and some killer photos, check out Left Lane News and Allpar.com. The official Dodge site has some pretty cool stuff too, including video of the unveiling.

Wow a two door charger. First dodge copied Kelderman with the mega cab now they copied west coast customs with there two door charger but put a different front and rear on it, the side profile are so close looking. Its better looking than the charger for sure, but no manual transmisson? WTF!

I dont get what everyone is complaining about with interiors…..now if your suggesting that old cars have better interior that makes absolutely no sense, the old interiors were held together by like 3 or 4 screws and rattled and sounded like they were gonna fall apart….they were very cheaply made. So i dont get what you all want them to do when designing an interior, alot of peaple complain that its just a bunch of plastic…..ummmm, what do you want it to be made out of??? also who buys a car for the interior anyway?

No it does not look like a Camaro the Camaro looks like the Challenger. Chevy isn’t smart enough to make a car look that good.

All I have to say is that Brian Is Dumb, and I dont think my last Magnum had any problems after hitting 50k, and I drove the hell outta it. Also the reason they Dicontinued the Magnum is because they had to drop one line of cars to focus more time on the new challenger, because all the LX cars are doing so well they are everywhere and they needed to put a new look on the road, instead of the millions of Chrystler 300, Magnums, and Chargers that you cant blink once w/o seeing on the road! The LXs are some of the best cars on the road right now!

Brian, I’m sorry but I don’t think you’re winning over a whole lot of people with your argument. You may as well just drop it, you’re kinda fighting a lost cause, at least with in this forum.

Eric–a modded M5 costs A LOT more than an SRT8 Challenger.

Brian–you should go over to LX forums and ask if their cars have been falling apart at 50k miles. I haven’t heard that. And as a Euro snob you might be interested to know that the Chrylsler LX cars have Mercedes rear ends, trannyes, etc. But if you want 400+ hp AND a refined look you’re going to need to spend a lot more money.

The funny thing is you guy’s bag on so many cars, Do you really think that a SRT8 version could beat a SCHNITZER BMW E39 M5, It’s not possible. But I like the american support and when it comes down to the real picture, Its all what the GIRLS THINK lol. Prove me friggen wrong If i had a challenger I would get PARIS HILTON, IF i had the camaro I would get the chick from transformers LOL.

Brian

You guys have it all wrong. It’s a big american car that’s going to fall apart after 50,000 miles. Sure it has a big engine, but if you are always fixing it what’s the point? All I’m saying is that if they’re going to go to the extent of recreating a classic, do a little work on the interior instead of stealing bits and pieces from the discontinued Magnum. The Mustang, Camaro and Challenger are all good looking cars…but…Ameirican auto makers could have done a better job of completing the job and using less plastic. A big engine and lots of horsepower coupled with a refined look and interior using quality parts would go much further than slapping 400 horseys into a plastic POS. Id you think I’m wrong about that, look at the interiors of each of these cars and look at all the plastic used to make the car look retro/cool.

I wonder what other engines they’ll put in it, I’m sure the 5.7L Hemi, I’d like to see a new 5.9L Magnum (hell I’ll take it in a Hemi version to), I doubt we’ll see a new 7.0L or anything cool like that, I’m sure there’ll be a V6 of some type, but two more I’d love to see (but probably have a snowball’s chance in HELL) is that 3.0L CRD or some other diesel, and of course the SRT-10 Viper, now thats a lot!

I guess as long as they can save a few bucks, and only screw over 60k americans within the next few years, why not. I drive a GM…..

If you all want to continue to praise american automakers, you might want to read this
http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/07/20/yourmoney/mexcar.php

Cutting that many jobs from AMERICANS to save themselves some money. I guess if you dont care for your fellow americans, go ahead, but if you do, then speak out people, or its gonna get worse. Our economy is bad enough.

Not a fan of american cars, but this looks very nice, if my broke ass could have a car collection this would be a must have, its a very nice looking car, and the performance on it is just as expected of good ole American muscle power. As for picking sides, you guys are argueing a never ending arguement of imports vs domestics, the fact is that both have cars that are good and bad. As for the viper, u really think this might replace it? Viper was always one of those i guess u can call it supercars, V10 around 500hp, this challenger will be more like dodge’s answer to the mustang if anything.

Brian, are you a freakin retard or what? It’s people like you that are the reason why milloin of AMERICANS or out of work because of all the crap ricer cars being ship over from the wantabee american countries!Just face it,American muscle car will never die,go dull,or fade away.So why don’t you just move your sorry ass over to Europe and drive in the passenger seat!

Mr. Farris
Feb 7, 2008 at 2:03 am

I’ts pretty cool to see the old relics from the past being born again. I’d love to own one myself. And Brian, just because it’s a recreation of a past vehicle does not mean it has all of the same flaws as the original models. Yes its a bit larger then alot of sports cars on the market but I bet it’s not nearly as heavy as the older cars.

who the fuck cares if girls like your 3rd gen…..they nice cars…better than any front wheel drive POS or some 4 door over priced fugly European junk….BMW do they have any sence of style or make more than one car all there dumb ass cars are shaped like a box and look the same they make a good sleeper but i’ll take my loud, faster muscle car over it any day

Feb 7, 2008 at 12:16 am

Brian you’re a wanker. Go tootle around in your prissy-ass little Euroheap and see how many chicks you get. Anyone whos dense enough not to realize that TransAms and 3rd-gens are cool again deserves to get beat on the head with one of their wanker Prada shoes.

Rob
Feb 6, 2008 at 11:13 pm

Brian, the SRT8 version is priced pretty close to the 135i and STI. You think those are better looking cars? Yes, those cars will be faster in the twisties, but they don’t have anywhere near 425 hp.

Brian
Feb 6, 2008 at 9:35 pm

It’s a POS because it has no class. It’s trashy, like a 70’s style Corvette or an 80’s Camaro. You won’t be pulling any chicks with an IROC. Give the Challenger 10 years and it will be on par with the Trans Am and we’ll all be making fun of the driver still trying to pull off the mullet.

eric
Feb 6, 2008 at 7:55 pm

why is it a POS? chill out its just a new car no need to get defensive, I agree nobody can ever beat BMW, but its hot looking, besides its more about what the girls think cause you cant break a car in without them.

Brian
Feb 6, 2008 at 7:41 pm

It’s still a behemoth of a car that will never be able to compete with its European and Japanese couterparts…ever. I can’t wait to make fun of the first sucker to buy one of these or a Mustang or a Camaro…what a POS!

Eric
Feb 6, 2008 at 6:22 pm

Man can’t wait to get out there with one and see how they jump lol.
