Toyota A-BAT or GMC Denali XT: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob
Editor-in-Chief
This week we decided to put two concept vehicles head to head. The Toyota A-BAT concept, which was unveiled last month at NAIAS, vs. the GMC Denali XT concept, which was unveiled in Chicago today. So if Toyota and GMC were to build these unibody trucks, which would you choose?

The GMC all the way! But one guy commented that the GMC probably won’t be produced and if so won’t look a thing like the concept. Which I wouldn’t be suprised. But GMC is a better quality, hell the Toyota dealer where I live has an old Ford truck for a plow truck, lol. But GM should just throw a Denali front end on a Avalanche and call it a day.

As they are now I would definitely go with the GMC. The Toyota looks more like a production vehicle could be closer to that design though. Likely the GMC will look nothing like that in the end.

I’D go with the GMC for sure, granted both are ugly as hell but the gmc is an american car,and i would go with GM or domestics over import trucks any day.Americans should support there own economy, not japans, hell i don’t need my money buying a japanese auto exec another benz or Ferrari.

Toyota all the way… GMC looks like a ugly concept car that was put on a lift kit! Toyota has the looks (if you like this type of vehicle, personally I dont), the quality and the reputation. #1 Automaker for a reason people. There is actually a functionality to the ABAT (Advanced Breakthrough Aerodynamic Truck) the Denali is another ordinary GMC hidden behind big rims and alot of chrome.
PS. I am slightly biased since I work for Toyota but above is my story and Im sticking to it.

So then to design automobiles, all you need is a severe crack habbit. Interesting.

“The DENALI looks like it was made in GOD’s own image”. LOL These words are from brad down at the bottom. WOW you must be religious to say something that IGNORANT. you suggest a CAR, not just a car but an american car is designed after the likes of GOD himself. I hope your vehicle has Really good air conditioning cause your gonna need it in HELL.

They honestly look about the same to me. drawings always change by the time they hit the concept build. and with the same lines, same bed, and damn near the same front end, they’re the same truck. gmc can’t build anything with that low a roof anyway. nobody could wear a hat in the thing.

I guess as long as they can save a few bucks, and only screw over 60k americans within the next few years, why not. I drive a GM…..

back in my day, if you wanted something like these, youd buy an SUV. For all you kids out there I said SUV, not cross-over. Cross-overs don’t exist. Their just station wagons with a fancy name. An SUV is a truck with extra seating instead of a box. Note the word “Truck”. These things arent trucks. They’re glorified cars.

I’d also say both look like they were beaten with the ugly stick too many times but I’d go with the Denali. I like the look of the headlights more. And the ginormous sized rims, doubt they would go into production that way

unibody means foriegn in another language. Hey who remembers the camaro and still pretends the body is tough. the silly photo I found with a cow on top of a camaro hood must be a photo chopped, there is really a japanese unibody underneath it.probably an 87 subaru.Photo Chopping would be easy for a fat camaro. I do have a point here…a good unibody does not have one.toyota of course would be my choice for champion. The avalanche looks like one going down the road…too much attempt at one piece by the big fat slobs making it. I said fat slobs. and meant it….

they’re both really, really ugly. The GMC is less ugly than the Toyota, though, so I guess i’d take it.

I said it before that i hate all these unibody trucks….the el camino is awsome as is the new pontiac/holden ute but these should not be used to replace the 1/4 ton offerings like dakota/raider, ranger/b-series, tacoma, canyon/colorado/i-series, frontier, etc. These unibody’s like the ridgeline need to be in a seprate class all there own. And i dont think the ridgeline has good sale numbers anyways, so why are all the automakers turning to them? I’m the proud owner of a 2005 dodge dakot, i love it despite its flaws (small brakes, underpowered engine, weak suspension) but if it’s replaced by a unibody like the dodge rampage concept, I’m going to buy a half-ton, which btw are going to all coil over designs. I miss the old soild axle trucks of yester year. The only true truck concept i’ve seen lately is the Jeep JT, I pray they make that for real, ill be waiting in line.

Denali, of course. Better BatMan’s pickup than the A-Bat which was beat with the ugly stick… although a lot of the GMC’s looks may be from the oversized rims. The other concept has normal rims on it… what the heck’s the deal with that??????

Denali XT. The A-BAT looks as though it were beaten by the ugly stick while the XT looks as though it was made in Gods own image.

Denali XT for sure, the A-BAT is just ugly in comparison.
