The Mob Tries its Hand at NASCAR

By Jen

Nothing’s more wholesome than NASCAR (heh), which is probably why the Gambino crime family thought that their nefarious plan to build a NASCAR track on Staten Island would fly under the radar. In the course of a large-scale organized-crime sting in New York, the mobsters were exposed and busted for extorting a local cement business and posing as employees of the "International Speedway Corp." The plans to build the track have been abandoned, and the case illustrates that automotive-related organized crime probably ought to stick to its familiar, more low-profile haven: salvage yards.
