well i think if chevy would bring back all the old name plates , like the nova, chevelle ,el camino , etc. i think more people would buy more of gm products , i love my chevys , but to be honest they dont really have the muscle cars like they use to have ,the only one they have now is the corvette n who could afford one these days ,n not to mention the insurance payments . but its nice to see that the camaro is coming back . gm needs to wake up n realize wat people want is nice looking n fast muscle cars n not what crap japan is shipping over here , i would own a jap car if u paid me a million dollars, long live chevys.

i hate this concept a camaro is a camaro but fusing a camaro and el camino is just stupid. this ticks me off more than when i found out that the challenger was released before the camaro

I hope you all learned from Myke. Know your history behind the car first. If you don’t have a passion for Chevys, you won’t understand. I personally own an 83 El Camino, 78 Monte Carlo and a 67 Chevelle. I would love for Chevy to pay homage to the classics of the past. You could never replace them but it would be nice to continue the legacy.

First, let an old-school Chevy-Lover school all of you young boys. Chevy came out with the first El Camino (Spanish translation: The Road) back in 1959 as an answer to Ford’s Ranchero, which came out in 1957. This was 5 years before Bunkie Knudsen whipped the cover off of the very first Chevelle in 1964 – the same year that Ford threw the first Mustang out the door – and only 8 years before the debut of the Camaro in 1967, which was intended to counter Ford’s upstart “ponycar”. (As a bit of trivia, the ‘67 Camaro was the only year to have side vent windows.) As far as the car/truck issue goes, Ford jumped all around with their Ranchero idea, making Fairlane, Falcon, Torino and LTD models of this pickup car phenomenon while Chevy, once they switched from the Impala version to the Chevelle version in 1964, stayed with that same Chevelle platform throughout the model run which ended in 1987, 8 years after the final Ranchero rolled off the assembly lines. So to say that the true El Camino was actually a Chevelle is not exactly accurate.

Next, this is not a Chevy concept car, but a beautiful (IMHO) rendition of what a pickup styled from a Camaro would look like – hence the monniker “El Camero” which is actually a rendered name for a rendered automobile. Kudos to Bo Zolland for his wonderful work – I would love to see more of his ideas.

Finally, if they make one, I will certainly look at buying one. I have a customized ‘95 C1500 Trick Truck, and I am considering an ‘06 400 HP SS/R, but I would put the convertible pickup on hold if I thought I could get a Z/28 pickup, and in the words of Bill Murray (Stripes), “That’s the facts, Jack!”

PS – I saw a picture of the Pontiac offering, and IMHO it looks like a little putt-putt. Kind of like the revival of the GTO – a real embarrassment, perhaps even an insult, to a former owner of a ‘67 GTO 4-speed convertible.

I kind of like this whole idea, definitely won’t sell much, but in the words of Earl Hickey, “Wow! An El Camino! That’s like the Cadillac of cars!”
It’d be a great thing to be produced in limited numbers for those real El Camino enthusiasts. This is not something that you should let your opinion affect (”Oh well it’s not a car or a truck it’s dumb”, etc.), but rather, give a legitimate reason why it should/should not be produced.
As I have stated, it would not sell as well as the original, so mass production might not be the best idea, but a custom production might be in order.

The car looks stupid. The whole el camino thing is stupid…its neither a car nor a pickup…its a mutant. If one wants to drive with a bed behind you…drive a Colorado/Silverado thats tweaked, its more respectable.

Ok justin, if they only use chevelle front ends for the el camino then why in 1980 – 87 did they still make an el camino using a chevy malibu nose but they didn’t make a chevelle at all?

That is the problem. It LOOKS like a Camaro with a bed. The Camaro has unique styling. But by copying it onto another platform, it makes both look cheaper. Give the El Camino it own look; it’s own personality.

A personal preference is just that a preference. Now, for the people who are struggling with the idea/name of this car. THIS IS NOT A CONCEPT CAR! This is an artists rendering of what he thinks a remake/modified El Camino. It will, however, be a different car, so he decided so call it the El Camero (with and e), not to be confused with Camaro (with an a). I can sympathize with the concern of some of you that it is not made with a Chevelle SS front end, if this was called an El Camino that would present a problem. This is not an El Camino so there is no problem. You cant call the car an El Camaro, because GM also has a car that most of you are familiar with known as a Camaro. This would be infringement, even though it is the same company, so El Camero is clever and catchy. And for all of you who read too fast, slow down and absorb the information before you attack someone for being “a dumb southern REDNECK” i believe is how it was put…

whats the point of this concept??? if anyone watched barret jackson during january they announced that the holden ute was to be brought over to north american if im not mistaken. Witch im hoping for cause when they brought the monaro over (as the GTO) it was ,i think a great success. But i think the concept of that elcamina is kinda ugly cause it has WAAY to many sharp lines on it to resemble the elcamino’s of old.

(from Bo Zolland) The El Camero is supposed to be built on the Camaro 2009 platform and could use the same engines etc. With a top SS model. I have used the Camaro concept wheelbase and measurements in chassis.

Who cares what he calls it and what it’s based on? It’s an artist’s rendering, not a sneak peek into GM’s future. Besides, there’s no Chevelle around on which to base a new El Camino. Yes, there’s the upcoming G8 on which GM may build a ute, but if sticking to tradition that model would be named Caballero.

Thumbs up to Zolland for taking what is imo an unspectacular new Camaro design and making it into something interesting.

Even if they don’t mass produce it, it’d be nice if some multi-millionare built a one off for SEMA like they did with the Cuda this past year.
