Economic Stimulus Package: Good News For Gearheads

By Jen

Editor

A hotly-contested economic stimulus bill was signed into law today by the prez, which means that most of us will be receiving a $600 rebate check from the government starting in May. From an economic standpoint, this might be a colossal example of throwing good money after bad, but hey, it’s free money. And that means one thing: car parts! Since it’s been widely noted that the "stimulus" part of the deal won’t work if people don’t actually spend their checks on things other than debt or necessities, it’s obviously our patriotic duty to shell out for whatever otherwise-unaffordable part or mod that we’ve been fantasizing about. I’m finally going to get a Weber carb for my Escort, so I can swap its current Holley 4-barrel onto my Eagle where it can actually do some good! How about you—what’ll you be spending your rebate check on?

My $600 is going towards a new paint job on my 1978 Camaro LT. Total cost would likely be $3000, how about that for stimulus!

Gotta figure out the grill situation on the tC – as summer comes around it might finally be time to get the windows tinted too.

Well, if I really receive any money (I’ll believe it when I have the check in my hand), and if there isn’t something that comes up, I will spend it on a 3″ turbo back exhaust.

If I haven’t already done so by then, I’m gonna use it to pay off the parts I already got on credit. Then my card will be squeaky clean and I can throw it back in the filing cabinet and lock it up. If that’s taken care of, then I’ll use it to finance the rebuild on the ol’ Spirit R/T.

do we really need more cheesy lambo doors on otherwise nice cars?

90-degree lambo door conversion for my Firebird Convertible. I was going to buy a Wings West kit, but I already snagged that for the paltry sum of $200.

Hey!?! Anyone out there got a Lambo conversion kit for $200?!?
-
Might as well ask… that could pave the way for a CF hood.
