D1 USA: We’re Screwed, Catch Our Drift?

Riffing off the whole idea of things going sideways is a little too easy, so I’ll just go ahead and report that D1 USA has been canceled for 2008. While everything is on schedule for Japan, word is the brass couldn’t get their act together in time to organize the stateside events. The All Star World Championship in Irwindale is still on the agenda, and the press release states organizers plan to return to our shores in 2009. But since Formula D is going full steam ahead—Circuit City sponsorship, ESPN2 coverage—you have to wonder if D1 is just packing up and going home. What do you think, will D1 come back to the US, or is the series gone for good? Read the press release here.

for the sake of Drifting, i hope it wont come back to America. The problem with drifting in america is that ignorant fanboys all over the country have picked up on some idea that drifting MUST be JDM, so therefore, to remain JDM, they pick up the closest S13 project, drop it, zip tie it, and offest it with perfect fitment, and enter the new crowd. movies such as Tokyo Drift haven’t helped much either. its too bad america is full of posers, because drifting is really a beautiful sport. oh well…heres hoping it stays in japan!

That’s too bad. I really wish they’d quit covering Nascar on speed and put more drifting on. I was just watching Formula D on Espn2, and its so much more interesting than the monster trucks and Nascar Speed fills their time with.
