Daytona: Where To Sit
By Jen

I’ve been told over and over to avoid lower-row seating at NASCAR events. A lot of people seem to want to perch up high, at a remove from the track, where they can see the cars traveling all the way around the backstretch. I can’t say I’ve ever been in the more expensive tower seating that affords those panoramic views, but as far as the authentic NASCAR experience goes, it’d have to be pretty good to beat first-row seats at Daytona. If you want to inhale a lot of tire smoke, hear the engines screaming inside your head, and be picking bits of shredded rubber out of your hair for a couple of days afterwards, nothing really beats the seating right up against the barrier. Check out the fan’s-eye view of the action from the first row at Daytona: my amateur videos of the cars warming up and taking off. What’s your recommendation for best seating at the racetrack?

I would say that front row would be pretty cool. Can’t say I ever watched a whole race from green to checkered anyway with the beer drinking and scouting the crowd for the 20,000 women in their skimpiest thinking their the next Mrs. Gordon. So if I miss the backstretch, I’ll live. It’s not good to put all your focus in one place when there is so much more to the experience that would be missed if only viewed thru binoculars.

for daytona, i’m not really sure. last time i went a bunch of idiots were standing the whole time so i couldnt see. i was only seven!
at bristol, you can sit anywhere and see most of the track.
At darlington, get near turn four at the start of the frontstretch.try to be at least 10 rows up.
At indianapolis, sit anywhere because there’s a bunch of shit in the way to see across the track. you just might as well watch it on tv.

I’d have to say you’d have to sit in the front row for at least a couple of laps to feel and watch those cars go by. I’ve always liked going about half way up the stands. But, at an event of that caliber I think the back row is where i’d want to sit for the duration…
