Cool Road Signs
By Katherine
AKA atomicalex
I spotted this road sign on Saturday while driving down to Savannah. I have two questions. One, does Bill France know about it, and two, how much Kentucky taxpayer money did he get for granting the use of the NASCAR name on Daytona weekend? Kidding aside, it’s good to see the state of Kentucky using popular culture to help drive safety initiatives. Now if only we could get NASCAR-level restraints in our street cars. What interesting or unusual road signs have you seen lately?

Anyone who didn’t think that NASCAR drivers had to wear seatbelts is… well, an idiot and shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce.

In my town every couple of years the Po-Po get together on a stretch of highway and set up a big speed trap…. Well they put out these big construction signs that have “Speed Trap Ahead” written on them in big letters…. The amusing part about that is the large number of people that get pulled over after passing the signs.

On the Atlantic City Expressway in Jersey (ok, duh) there are 3 large signs, about 1/4 mile apart. “Stay Awake”… “Stay Alert”… “Stay Alive”…

Seems the road was so flat, straight and boring that people were slipping off from consciousness… and the shoulder.

Yeah, I know. It’s not popular culture, but everyone who takes that road knows of those signs.

On Hwy 22 between Pittsburg and Altoona in PA there is a sign that is my favorite. Instead of “Don’t drink and drive” they have one that says “Watch out for DUI drivers.” Apparently PA has given up on convincing the idiots drunkards to stay off the road.
