Biomechanical Weirdness
By Jen

For his day job, Christopher Conte builds prosthetic limbs for amputees. In his spare time, he makes stuff like this. Conte describes his sculptures as "biomechanical," using a lot of copper tubing and such to recall antique mechanical and hydraulic models, and combining the machinery with some organic element like an insect or a human skull. This one’s nominally all machine, though the Aston Martin seems to stand out as the "organic" component of this turbine sculpture. In the context of Conte’s other works, it sort of tricks the brain into thinking of the car as living. Bizarre!
