1971 Impala on 24s

By Rob

Editor-in-Chief

Playboy is the third owner of this beautiful 1971 Chevy Impala, which is incredibly clean and straight. The numbers matching 400 SBC breathes a little easier with an Edelbrock intake manifold, 600 Holley 4 bbl carb, Hooker headers and Flowmaster exhaust. Playboy drove over 1,000 miles to pick up the low mile survivor, and I’d say it was worth it. And I’m generally pretty old school, but I think it looks great with those 24s (which, apparently, he is selling). What’s next, 26s?

Edit: whoa, just noticed the truck nuts! And it looks like our buddies at Jalopnik noticed before I did!

I highly doubt it, eric. This car and my own both use the same brakes. Since my car is lighter, my brakes are brand new, and I don’t have to stop those mosterous rotating assemblies known as 24’s, I’d say my car would definitely stop much better.

It’s funny that you will condemn hate in one post, and then hate on everyone elses rides in another. I guess hate and hyprocrisy go hand in hand.

Besides I looked at the haters pages, You guy really shouldnt talk. this car could be at a show, your cars couldnt make it to the wholesale auction.

Probably stops better than your car.

I’d love to see how far it would take that tank to stop from 60 with the 24’s and those tiny stock brakes.

Ok, so it’s his ride. I’m fine with that. But the idea of hacking up a “numbers matching 400 SBC” does not sit well with me. I think it is a silly trend and I hope he upgraded his brakes, trans, etc. to make it safe. After that, it won’t bother me that bad. But it doesn’t change my honest opinion about them in general.

Nice Impala. Looks good rockin’ the big wheels but not with the huge ass monster truck lifts they’re putting on these cars these days. But the Truck Nuts or whatever, uh not so much

Eric took the words right out of my mouth. I hate how people think EVERY car should be some type of race car/performance car or whatever u want to call it (not everybody wants to go fast all the time). Its his money, let the dude do what he wants to the car, u don’t like it build a better one!

All anyone does is hate on anything that isnt the same old crap. First of all its a big body ride so performance isnt really the way anyone should go with it. Its just fine the way it is, If you dont like it then keep crying to yourself cause there’s plenty of us who just like it for what it is ( a cool Impala on some large wheels).

DAMN IF YOU GO TO THE “JALOPNIK” SITE THEY HATE THIS CAR!!

I PERSONALLY LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT THE WHEELS REALLY SET IT OFF!! I GUESS IF THEY WANTED TO MAKE IT A PERFORMANCE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE!! :P

No the wheels give it character, besides it’s 2008 time to renovate car design and the custom factor is always changing. I would stay with the 24’s but different wheels, and a lower profile tire would set it off. clean ride though I would love to have that car for sure.

I like to see them ditch the gaudy bling and opt for something more performance oriented.
